English Episode Title: Espionage — French Episode Title: Espionnage

After a hack goes awry, Aelita opts to stay behind to talk to her mother in the Cortex, with the rest of the crew covering for her with a clone.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Book Dumb: Jérémie's clone of Aelita cannot talk, has no sense of direction, and does not start conversations, in part because Jérémie did not have time to create a better clone.
  • Continuity Nod: This is not the first time Jérémie creates a clone of one of the team members, not even the second time either.
  • Lower-Deck Episode: A very slow episode, with very little fighting, only keeping up the storyline of Aelita finding her mother.
  • Missing Mom: The whole episode is about averting this trope.
  • No Antagonist: The point of the episode is for Aelita to wait out her mother visiting the lab so they can talk, XANA is not in the episode at all, and Tyron only kills Aelita after discovering his security was broken.
  • No Sense of Direction: Clone!Aelita has this as one of her many faults, and requires Odd and Ulrich to walk her everywhere.
  • Overly Long Gag: Clone!Aelita turning to the side in response to questions.
  • Stealth-Based Mission: Aelita hides from the Ninja's to talk to her mother. If Tyron learns of her presence, he'll know Jérémie has hacked his system.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Tyron successfully counters Jérémie's hack, but Aelita gets to talk to her mother to tell her she's alive.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: Ulrich finds it pointless to talk to clone!Aelita as she's just a clone, but Odd has fun with it, and William is only slightly annoyed by the charade.
