Before Rolo can use his Geass, he receives a phone call from Lelouch. To his surprise, he's back at school, making up classes for Villetta, safe and sound. Confused as to how Zero can be at the Chinese Federation consulate while Lelouch is at school, Rolo leaves. In truth, the Zero that appeared on TV was C.C., the speech Zero gave being a recording Lelouch made beforehand.
Back at school, Lelouch notices that none of his friends in the student council seem to remember Nunnally: their memories had also be rewritten as his own were, likely due to Suzaku selling them out to the Emperor in order to maintain the illusion His Majesty created to keep Lelouch complacent. This also means that the Emperor is likely holding Nunnally hostage. In order to find and rescue her, Lelouch decides to turn the people surveiling him, particularly Villetta and Rolo, to his side.
As Suzaku and other Knights of the Round invade a nation of the EU, Villetta and Rolo discuss Lelouch in secret: it seems to them that his memories of Zero had not returned, and they were not aware of him using his Geass.
At the Chinese Federation consulate, Kallen, C.C., and Xingke are informed that Guilford is making an ultimatum: he is calling for Zero to meet him by midday the following day to fight him in a duel. If he does not show, he will have the Black Knights in Britannian custody, including Ohgi and Todoh, executed!
Lelouch, determined to save the Black Knights, decides to take advantage of Shirley's offer to help her shop for a present for Villetta to lose his surveillance. At a mall, he evades Rolo, the OIS, and the nosy student council, while making a bomb threat to the mall. In the ensuing confusion, he escapes.
In the control room under Ashford Academy where the OIS monitors Lelouch, Lelouch confronts Rolo, having used his Geass on one of the spies tailing him to throw off the others, and holds his "brother" at gunpoint. Before he can use his Geass on Rolo, however, Rolo teleports behind him, Lelouch's gun now in Rolo's hand.
At the same time, Xingke appears poised to turn on the Black Knights.
