Tropes

  • Cool Teacher: Alex tries to become one of these after failing to capture the attention of his students during his lectures. On the advice of another teacher he gets the idea to incorporate stunts into his lectures... with painful results.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: The Stunt Master at the bar shows Alex the Widowmaker stunt in an attempt to dissuade him from his path of trying to buy his students' attention with stunts. Alex ignores her advice and rides off on the motorcycle mid-explanation.
  • Enemy Within: As Josh attempts to finish his game Dude Man, the game's titular character comes to life and becomes this to him, encouraging Josh to do self-destructive things like over-drinking and partying to try and capture the feelings of being in his 20s again in order to get the inspiration he needs to finish making the game. This qualifies as Dude Man only exists in Josh's perspective.
  • Kill It with Fire: Josh kills off Dude Man by dropping its computer (which he had been carrying with him) into the Widowmaker stunt's fiery pit as he flies over it.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Everyone's reaction to seeing Josh on the roof trying to pick up the stunt that Alex abandoned.
  • Mistakes Are Not the End of the World: Although Dude Man's failed debut did stop Josh's video game-making career from taking off, it was because of that failure that he met Emily, as he probably would not have been drowning his sorrows at that bar that night had he succeeded.
  • My Greatest Failure: Josh regards his failure to finish Dude Man as his, especially as he had thought it was all good only to run into a crippling bug during the game's reveal demo.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: After Josh is reminded about his failed game at the start of the episode, he resolves to try and finish it, no matter what.
  • We Really Do Care: As Alex is about to do the Widowmaker stunt, some of his students, including Lee, who had been the most blatant in heckling him, come up to the roof to stop him. They compare what he is doing to Sisyphus, showing that even before he started all this they had been listening to his lectures.
