Recap / Clone High S 3 E 01 Blinded With Pseudoscience Magnetic Distractions

Go To

Clone High gets a new teacher with unorthodox methods named Professor Hirsute, while Harriet's eyes wander.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Flipping the Bird: Cleo and Frida give Joan the finger as they pass her on a bike.
  • Gravity Is Only a Theory: Professor Hirsute convinces Abe, JFK and Confucius that gravity isn't real, his evidence consisting solely of a bird he was holding flying away after he let it go.
  • Gross-Up Close-Up: Scudworth gets a shot showing his pierced ear being infected.
  • Hated by All: Joan is still the most despised clone in the show with everyone being mad at her, and ignoring her for her actions in the Death Maze.
  • Historical Gender Flip: A clone of Jack the Ripper is among the Bleacher Creatures, who turns out to actually be a woman named Jackee the Ripper. Granted, the actual identity of the one responsible for the Whitechapel murders remains a mystery, as the perpetrator was never caught.
  • Insane Troll Logic: A lot of what Professor Hirsute says qualifies as a flagrant logical fallacy, but the biggest one is when he makes the argument that birds being capable of flight disproves gravity.
  • Joke of the Butt: One of the logos Topher suggests for the Bleacher Creatures' tagging of a wall is simply the groups' butts, which turns out to be the design they stick with at the end of the episode.
  • Take That!: Professor Hirsute is a potshot at conspiracy theorists and followers of pseudoscience, addressing that their claims are flagrant falsehoods that no one sensible should ever take seriously and serve no purpose other than endangering and manipulating the gullible. Candide outright says she only hired Hirsute to weed out the clones who aren't leadership material, anticipating that any student stupid enough to believe what Hirsute tells them without question will get themselves killed.
