Tandy is on the run as Detective O'Reilly closes in on her, but the detective may not be after her for the reasons Tandy thinks. Tyrone is desperate for answers and turns to Evita and her Auntie Clarisse, a Voodoo priestess, for help.
- Call-Forward: Evita mentions two brothers having fought the last duel in New Orleans during a hurricane. One sacrificed himself rather than shoot his brother, and that saved the city from the hurricane. They were a former Divine Pairing.
- Five-Second Foreshadowing: Clarisse mentions that one way to induce the trance-like state that Tyrone is trying to enter is to give him a concussion. He declines, but shortly after that, Tandy is brought into the same state as him due to suffering a concussion.
- Hollywood Voodoo: Averted. New Orleans voodoo is presented in a realistic manner, as a religious and cultural tradition.
- Mushroom Samba: Most of the episode is a complicated Mind Screw where Tyrone and Tandy present their issues to one another through a voodoo ritual and being passed out on a bus.
- Naked First Impression: Greg spends the episode wearing Melissa's pink bathrobe. It contributes to making him look a stoner loser rather than a successful lawyer.
- "Not So Different" Remark: Tandy and Ty see each other in their visions and learn that they're both trapped in harmful cycles due to their childhood trauma. Ty in a cycle of violence and self-recrimination, Tandy always running from her problems.
- Once More, with Clarity: The scene where Ty and Tandy talk after the car crash is shown again, this time from Ty's perspective.
- Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Rick Cotton gets help from Connors to sell his lies of being mugged. O'Reilly doesn't buy it though.
- Sexy Shirt Switch: Tandy gets to meet her mom's boyfriend after they've had a night of drug-fueled sex. Greg is wearing her mom's pink bathrobe.
- Voodoo Doll: Chantelle keeps some of these. The latest one she makes herself with a 3D printer and is a representation of Tyrone.
