I got shot in the heart by my mom

Chuck Versus the Aisle of Terror is the sixth episode of Chuck's fourth season.

Chuck, Sarah, Casey, and Morgan must stop a scientist from selling a fear-inducing toxin to Volkoff Industries.

Chuck's mother comes back to his life and explains why she abandoned them while Devon's mother Honey pays a visit to Ellie.

Morgan tasks Jeff and Lester deck out the Buy More for Halloween.

  • Acquired Poison Immunity: Dr. Wheelwright developed his fear toxin by testing it on himself and has so used to being afraid that he fear nothing anymore. Until Chuck brings him to Jeff and Lester's Aisle of Terror, that is.
  • Action Mom: Chuck's mom shows herself to be The Ace at being a spy.
  • The Bait: Casey tricks Morgan into being the bait for an informant he doesn't trust.
  • Bulletproof Vest: Chuck's life is saved by one when he's shot in the chest by Frost. Later, she claims she knew he was wearing it all along.
  • Daddy Had a Good Reason for Abandoning You: Mary her Parental Abandonment of Chuck and Ellie was due to her being a Deep Cover Agent for Volkoff. She says she rather not know anything about them in order not to reveal anything if she's ever caught or tortured.
  • Deep Cover Agent: Mary claims to be one for Volkoff as "Frost" and claims that there is no evidence of this because her CIA records were expunged when she went undercover. Casey and Sarah are skeptical, and when Casey tries to have her story checked only to learn it's all fake and that she has gone rogue.
  • Double Meaning: Chuck when he says his "heart hurts" after being shot by his mom. Both due to his betrayal, and due to her shooting him in his heart area.
  • Faux Horrific: Jeff and Lester's Aisle of Terror. Images said to induce horror in even the most fearless. Images like old people, public showers, babies in snail costumes, and otters. Hilariously subverted at the climax, when Chuck uses the Aisle Of Terror to terrorize Dr. Wheelwright, who has been affected by his own fear toxin and finds the Aisle truly horrific.
  • Feet-First Introduction: Played With, while we see Chuck's mom earlier in the episode as "Frost", her first shot is of her foot-stomping out of her car.
  • Halloween Episode: The episode takes place in Halloween, with Buy More having a Faux Horrific Aisle of Terror and the Villain of the Week being a Supernatural Fear Inducer.
  • Ham-to-Ham Combat: Chuck narrating the fears in the "Aisle of Terror" to Dr. Wheelwright, whose responses are just as hilarious.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: Frost first gives Chuck the information about Dr. Wheelwright, only for her to turn up at their trap for Wheelwright to rescue him from Chuck, shooting her own son in the heart. Then she shows up at the Buy More and asks him to get into the car with her, where she tells him she pretended to kill him because Volkoff was tapped to the security cameras and she had to keep up appearances. And then Casey finds out she actually did actually go rogue and her Deep Cover Agent doesn't check out.
  • Internal Reveal
    • Chuck tells Mary that Ellie is pregnant and that she's going to be a grandmother
    • Ellie learns that her mother abandoned them because she's also a spy.
  • My Beloved Smother: Devon's mother Honey Woodcomb (Morgan Fairchild) comes to visit the pregnant Ellie for a few days to prep the couple for parenthood, much to the latter's chagrin, as she's still as controlling as ever.
  • Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant: Jeff becomes one, putting on the video screens in said aisle images of such things as interspecies relations, babies in costume, note  public showers, and old people!
  • Professor Guinea Pig: Dr. Wheelwright used himself as a test subject when creating his fear toxin, which made him highly resistant to it.
  • Shout-Out: Robert Englund shows up as the Villain of the Week, a man who can make people have "nightmares they can never wake up from" as a reference to his role as Freddy Kruger in A Nightmare on Elm Street
  • Somebody Set Up Us the Bomb: Dr. Wheelwright sets up his fear toxin bomb to explode as a safety measure when someone tries to disarm it if he's not present to stop it with his fingerprints.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Mary disappears at the pier when Chuck looks away for a second.
  • Supernatural Fear Inducer: Dr. Wheelwright has created a Fantastic Drug that can induce fear on people who come into contact to it within seconds.
  • Vehicular Kidnapping: Mary is kidnapped by Sarah and Casey right in front of Chuck, via a van driving up behind her and Sarah snatching her in.
  • Villain of the Week: Dr. Stanley (Robert Englund) who created a fear toxin that can induce fear and is trying to sell it to Volkoff Industries.
  • Wham Episode: Chuck finally meets his mom who reveals she's a Deep Cover Agent in Volkoff. Only for Casey to find she went rogue, and him and Sarah capture her against Chuck's wishes.
  • "What Do They Fear?" Episode: Chuck ends up seeing Sarah being killed by his own mother after he's affected by the fear toxin.
