Recap / Chuck S 2 E 05 Chuck Vs Tom Sawyer

Go To

You mean the guy who invented Missile Command commands actual missiles?
-Chuck

Chuck flashes on a nuclear terrorist at the Buy More, looking for Jeff. Chuck hangs out with Jeff to discover why he's being targeted. It turns out that Jeff holds the world record for the game Missile Command, devised by Morimoto, who hid in it the secret to control a satellite capable of starting World war III. When the terrorists get hold of the code, the only way to avoid disaster is to play the game to the end to find the kill screen.

Trope Flash:

  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: When Emmet Milbarge sees Chuck and Jeff hanging out in the entertainment centre, drinking beer and watching Jeff's Stalker Shot video of Anna.
Emmet: If I may note the following infractions: trespassing after hours, alcohol consumption on Buy More property and lewd use of a musical montage.
  • Brain Bleach: Chuck's reaction to hanging out with Jeff in order to find out why someone might be after him. He only agrees because the alternative is to subject Jeff to Enhanced Interrogation Techniques.
Chuck: So the options are torturing Jeff or torturing me?
  • Collateral Damage: Casey and General Beckman's solution to a nuclear weapons satellite being hijacked by terrorists is to shoot it down, with "acceptable civilian casualties." A horrified Chuck comes up with the idea of using Jeff to reach the kill screen and the code.
Casey: Who do you trust to bring down a rogue satellite more: some burned out loser playing a video game, or an Air Force ICBM?
  • Conflict Ball: Chuck hanging out with Jeff is treated as threatening by Morgan and Lester, for... some reason. It's all fixed when Chuck needs Morgan's help getting Jeff to play.
  • Girlfriend in Canada: Emmet Milbarge, the efficiency expert brought in to improve the Buy More, states with very little prompting that he has a girlfriend who works for the store's Ontario branch.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Emmet Milbarge is set up as one of these to Chuck; he's an efficiency expert there to analyse the Buy More and clearly takes against Chuck right away, viewing him as professional competition when the other employees clearly look up to him. At the end of the episode, Emmet is made the new Assistant Manager.
