Recap / Chowder S 1 E 4 Grubble Gum

Go To

Chowder buys a whole bunch of bubblegum, but accidentally ends up chewing it all, leaving none left for him to share with Truffles.

  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: When the gum gets stuck to the group, it starts ripping up the background, leaving an empty white space.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: None of this wouldn't have happened had Chowder not been so reckless with his gum chewing.
Truffles: *to Chowder* This is what happens when you don't share!
  • Covered in Gunge: What happens to Chowder halfway through the episode, and anyone else who happens to get stuck to him.
  • Dull Surprise: Gazpacho's reaction when he sees a giant ball of grubble gum careening towards him and his food stand.
    Chowder: Hi, Gazpacho!
    Gazpacho: ... I regret nothing...?
  • Gainax Ending: The grubble gum ends up entrapping virtually everyone in Marzipan, and eventually the whole world. Then another Chowder eats the grubble gum, including everyone in the world, restarting the episode.
  • Noodle Incident: Apparently Chowder wasn't the last person who forgot to share gum with Truffles, as evidenced by Chowder's horrified expression when he recalls the last time it happened, emphasized by the screaming in the background (who just so happens to be a man who sells screams for a dollar).
  • The Nose Knows: It's not point trying to hide gum from Truffles, she can still smell it.
  • Shout-Out: The final bit of the episode is a very clear shout out to Katamari Damacy, as the ball of grubble gum starts rolling around Marzipan city picking up anything or anyone it makes contact with and just growing bigger to the point it's the size of the entire planet. Even the music takes a few cues from the game, playing a song that sounds eerily familiar to ''Katamari on the Rocks''.
  • Would Hurt a Child: When trying to find a way to get rid of the evidence of Chowder having gum, Schnitzel's first suggestion is to throw it in the furnace, including Chowder. Mung is quick to shoot that idea down.
