In Styria, Lenore grants Hector's request for shoes, along with some clothes. She then offers Hector a walk outside of his cell, under the condition that he wear a leash. Hector is not enthused with Lenore's stipulation, given the last time he was collared, but obliges for the chance to leave his cell for a time. Even though he has warmed up to Lenore, Hector remains reluctant to raise an army for Carmilla. When Hector is brought back inside, he is shown to a new cell, one with a simple bed and a desk with a book of vampiric magic. While he still has misgivings with Carmilla, he has begun to fall for Lenore...

Back in Lindenfeld, as Sala's monks continue to carve alchemical symbols into buildings, Saint-Germain dreams of his previous journey into the Infinite Corridor: a tunnel of bright lights, a din of noise, and holes opening to distant alien worlds, many of which defy imagination and explanation. It was in one of these holes that he found his companion. He tried to reach out to her, but with the hole threatening to close, Saint-Germain's friend can do naught but toss a parting gift to him: the gem that allowed him to find the Infinite Corridor again.

When he awakes, Saint-Germain ponders if, upon finding his friend again, he would ever be able to have pleasant dreams again...

Meanwhile, out in the desert, Isaac takes time to converse with one of his more well-spoken night creatures, asking him about what he can remember of his past life before being condemned to Hell. Though his memory is incomplete, the creature says that he was a philosopher in Athens who studied the inner workings of God and Heaven. Unfortunately, Athens would be taken over by Christians who declared his philosophy a sin. He would be imprisoned and tortured, and forced to name other sinners in the hopes of being spared, only to be executed. The creature's story serves to feed Isaac's hatred of humanity and justify taking up Dracula's cause as his own.
