- Not So Above It All: Subverted when Castle and Beckett call Esposito to ask which of them fell for the other first. He puts the phone down and lets the pair argue while he and Ryan get back to work.Esposito: You do know I'm busy trying to save your life, right?
- Real Time: Halfway through the episode they learn the bomb Beckett's standing on also has a timer. By the time the episode only has ten minutes left, so does the bomb.
- Secret Secret-Keeper: The end reveals Gates knew about the couple all along and was just pretending not to notice so she could maintain plausible deniability. She lets them keep their positions as long as they're professional while on the job.
- Wham Line: Courtesy of Gates, who Castle and Beckett have been trying to hide their relationship from.For heaven's sake, detective, just kiss the man.
