Go To

  • Assumed Win: At the auction, Imogen's friend is dead sure that he will get his painting for 200,000 guilders and smiles in anticipation. Cue Agreus bidding 300,000.
  • Breaking Bad News Gently: Ezra tells Imogen to sit down before he tells her that their father's friend Dr. Morange has been killed.
  • Circling Monologue: Sophie circles Jonah while they talk about forging an alliance.
  • Detective Mole: Da Chief comes to believe that Philo is the Serial Killer and has him arrested.
  • Get Out!:
    • When Portia is told by a tenant that if she doesn't stop carrying on with Philo, he'll terminate his lease: she walks over to a small till, takes out his rent money, and hands it to him, telling him to be gone by the end of the day.
    • Portia again when she is disgusted to learn that Philo is half-Fae, ordering him to get out of the boarding house she runs where he'd been staying.
  • Held Gaze: Between Vignette and Tourmaline. It ends with them starting to kiss but then they get interrupted by another girl storming in and informing them about another killing.
  • Heroic BSoD: Vignette is left screaming and crying in rage and anguish upon discovering that her library has been turned into a museum exhibit.
  • If Only You Knew: The housekeeper wonders what might have become of Aisling's baby while the adult version was sitting right across from her. Philo reveals himself to her moments later when he gets walked off by the police.
  • Ms. Exposition: Imogen and Ezra's housekeeper tells Philo about Aisling staying at the house.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Sophie points out to Jonah how they both have much in common, like being the sole heirs of the city's most important families, being overprotected and chronically underestimated.
  • Red Herring: Tourmaline keeps a chest with drawings of all her clients. It gets some focus and one might think that this will come in handy at some point but it's never brought up again. At least not in season 1.
  • The Reveal: Mr. Spurnrose gave Aisling Querelle sanctuary in his home and she later gave birth there.
  • Use Your Head: Philo headbutts a police officer with his hands bound.
  • Vomiting Cop: The episode opens with one of the constables leaving the scene of Morange's murder while puking into his helmet.
