Recap / Captain Planet And The Planeteers S 1 E 17 Dont Drink The Water

Go To

Looten Plunder calls together Dr. Blight, Hoggish Greedly, and Verminous Skumm for a new plan — contaminate the city's entire water supply so they can sell clean water for outrageous prices.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Big "NO!": When Skumm and Blight criticize how poorly Plunder's plan is going, Plunder says that it doesn't matter if Gi escaped, because he already killed Captain Planet, Kwame, Ma-Ti, and Linka. Wheeler screams his denial. The two henchmen have to hold him back as he lunges at Plunder and threatens him.
  • Casual Danger Dialogue: Immediately after Wheeler helps Gi escape, Bleak grabs him from behind, pinioning his arms to his sides. Wheeler nonchalantly asks him and Rigger how things are going.
  • Chekhov's Gun: While the Planeteers are investigating the contaminated water, Gi takes a sample and puts the vial in her shirt. It comes in handy later to escape from their cell.
  • Drowning Pit: The villains find out Captain Planet and three of the Planeteers are in the storm sewers and unleash a flood of contaminated water on them. Captain Planet seals the others into a convenient metal tube so they don't drown. While he doesn't drown, the combined pollution comes close to killing him.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Ma-Ti and Kwame go in search of clean water to wash off the Captain after he gets covered in polluted water. Frustrated at their failure, Ma-Ti knocks over several barrels, saying that there isn't a drop of water to be found. Then Kwame realizes that there's a dripping water pipe nearby.
  • Exact Words: When Plunder initially finds Gi gone, he berates Bleak and Rigger, telling them that he ordered them to watch the Planeteers who had been captured. Wheeler, who made sure Gi got away at the expense of his own attempt, grinningly points out that they technically did; they watched her escape.
  • I Have Your Wife: The villains pull out the captive Wheeler when Captain Planet turns up to stop them, threatening to kill him if the hero doesn't back off and let them carry on with their plan. The Captain, seeing the geo-cruiser already in position, pretends he's stymied. Then Bleak accidentally knocks Wheeler over the edge while celebrating their win, removing the villains' bargaining chip and speeding up the rescue.
  • Implied Death Threat: When Captain Planet confronts the Eco-villains at the reservoir, Plunder tells him to calm down if he wants Wheeler to stay safe. Captain Planet warns them that they'd better not hurt him, and Skumm answers that they won't as long as the Captain doesn't try to intervene in their plans.
  • Let Me at Him!: When Plunder gloats about having "eliminated" Captain Planet and most of the Planeteers, Rigger and Bleak have to hold Wheeler back from attacking him.
  • Let's Split Up, Gang!: The Planeteers split up, with Wheeler and Gi going to investigate Plunder's penthouse and the others trying to get a better idea of how the water's been polluted. Neither group has an easy time, but given what happens to both of them, they probably wouldn't have had it easier if they'd stuck together.
  • Obligatory Joke: Kwame uses a sort of hang-glider mechanism attached to the geo-cruiser, leaving his arms free to catch Wheeler before he hits the polluted water. He then quips that the team thought they'd drop in.
  • "Open!" Says Me: After Gi melts the lock, Wheeler kicks the door to their cell open.
  • Poison Is Acid: The contaminated water is so poisonous it can't be drunk and acidic enough to melt a lock.
  • The Rest Shall Pass: Two henchmen turn up as Gi and Wheeler are in the middle of escaping and flip the door-close switch. Wheeler tells Gi to keep going and then drives straight at the pair. When they dive out of the way, he turns to the side and grabs the switch, allowing Gi to escape. He gets captured immediately after.
  • Shoot Out the Lock: While she and Wheeler are locked up, Gi uses the sample of contaminated water she took to splash the lock. Because the water is so poisonous, the lock melts.
  • Shout-Out: Verminous Skumm says, "Bah, scumbug!" after the villains lose.
  • Water Source Tampering: The villains' current plan involves dumping nuclear waste and garbage into the water supply, leaving the city without recourse but to buy their expensive water.
  • Wounded Hero, Weaker Helper: After Captain Planet gets drenched in polluted water, he can't do a thing to help himself. The non-powered Ma-Ti and Kwame have to find clean water before the contamination kills him.
  • Your Little Dismissive Diminutive: While telling Captain Planet to leave them alone if he wants Wheeler unharmed, Looten Plunder calls the teenager "[Planet's] little errand boy."
