Recap / Camp Lazlo S 1 E 2 Snake Eyes Racing Slicks

Go To

Air date: July 8, 2005

"Snake Eyes": After the Jelly Beans' snake escapes, Patsy offers to help search for him.

"Racing Slicks": The Jellies enter a soap box derby, but troubles arise after they spend all their money on a coin-operated ride.

"Snake Eyes" contains examples of:

  • Accidental Ventriloquism: The Jelly Beans' new pet snake escapes and seemingly eats the other campers until Lazlo and Patsy are the only ones left. When Lazlo finds the snake, he apparently hears Raj's voice coming from inside it, but it turns out that he's hiding in the tree along with everyone else.
Raj: You silly monkey, we are up here!
Lazlo: (sobbing) Where "up here"? In the great camp in the sky?!
Raj: Up in the sky? No, no, we are on a tree in the sky! And the pine needles are sticking in my rumpus. They are quite painful. Perhaps you and Patsy could get rid of Snakey so we could all get down from this tree?
Skip: Yeah, I gotta go to the little camper's room.
  • And Then I Said: Patsy and co. are passing by Dave, Ping Pong and Edward on a picnic.
Dave: ...And that's why I love licorice ropes.
    Ping Pong: Sounds very logical.
  • Bears Are Bad News: At the end of the episode, a giant frothing-at-the-mouth bear jumps out of the bushes.
Lazlo: Oh! Hello, little guy! Wanna go back to our camp with us?
Bear: Uh, d'ya have any porridge?
Lazlo: We have beans! Are you any good at hide and seek?
    Bear: No.
  • Being Watched:
Samson: You have the feeling you're being watched?
Chip: You're watching me. And you shouldn't. 'Cause I'm hhhiding.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Lazlo gets fed up with Patsy's so-called expertise and snaps at her.
  • Black Belt in Origami: Patsy claims to have a belt in bok choy.
  • Changed My Mind, Kid: Patsy tries to flee, but is guilted by Lazlo into immediately returning to help save the day.
  • Foreshadowing: When Skip suddenly disappears while Patsy is talking to him, leaves are seen falling down from where he once was. The end of the episode reveals that everyone was hiding in a tree to get away from Snakey.
  • Go to the Euphemism: At the end, Skip says he needs to go to the "little campers' room" after everybody except Lazlo and Patsy ends up stranded on a tree.
  • Furry Reminder: Patsy insists she's an expert snake tracker because she's a mongoose. Though she eventually reveals she had been lying to impress Lazlo.
  • Human Ladder: The Lemmings form one during hide-and-seek.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Patsy claims to be an expert on tracking snakes, but clearly knows nothing and is just making stuff up as an excuse to hang out with Lazlo.
  • One, Two, Skip a Few:
Skip: Okay, you guys better hide, I'm counting. One, three, eleven...
  • P.O.V. Cam: Used whenever we see Snakey's point of view.
  • Retirony: In the game the Jellies play, "Sergeant Peanut" is retiring tomorrow. He gets bitten by Snakey soon after.
  • Snakes Are Sinister: The Bean Scouts certainly think so. Snakey is relatively harmless.
  • Snake Versus Mongoose: Patsy (a mongoose) claims she can track Snakey because of her species.
  • Went to the Great X in the Sky: Lazlo worries that his friends got eaten by Snakey and went to "the great cabin in the sky".

"Racing Slicks" contains examples of:

  • Comedic Underwear Exposure: Jelly Cabin's kart passes Chip and Skip so fast that their clothes come off and the two are left in their boxers.
  • Cutting Corners: The campers annoy Lumpus so much on the bus ride into Prickly Pines that he lowers the budget for soapbox kart supplies from $50 to $5.
Slinkman: Sir, that doesn't seem enough to buy parts to build a go-kart.
Lumpus: You'd be surprised what can be done when you put a little thought into it, Slinkman.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Raj kicks away Clam's bed (which has bed casters on it) far enough away that he shoots out of the cabin. Lazlo then gets an idea to use the beds as their go-kart.
  • Exact Words: Lazlo tells Slinkman that he blew all of their money driving a race car (a coin-operated ride). Slinkman gets excited because he thinks that he's talking about a real race car.
Lazlo: Um, well, we were um, riding on this really fun race car...
Clam: Race car, race car, race car!
Slinkman: You mean that you actually got to drive a race car?
    Lazlo: Well, sort of.
  • Furry Reminder: Slinkman is so depressed at the Jellies blowing all his money away that he lies on the floor and starts to move like an actual slug.
  • Hidden Depths: We find out in this episode that Slinkman (who we've just known as nothing but a Yes-Man) loves race cars and desperately wants to drive in one.
  • Hope Spot: It looks like Slinkman and the Jellies are going to come in first place, but their soda-powered booster runs out of fuel just before the finish line.
  • Incessant Music Madness: The Beans annoy Lumpus by singing in the beginning of the episode.
  • Medal of Dishonor: Edward mockingly gives the Jelly trio a shiny trophy with "DEAD LAST" carved into it, saying they can put it next to their other "loser trophies". A cut inside their cabin shows that they have a ton of other crappy "awards".
  • Money Dumb: The Jellies spend all of the money Slinkman gives them on a coin-operated ride.
Raj: Lazlo, I do not think Mr. Slinkman gave us that money to ride in a race car. He gave us that money to purchase a race car!
    Lazlo: Uh oh...
  • Second Place Is for Winners: Edward's first place trophy is decently sized. Lazlo's middle place trophy is very elaborate. Chip and Skip's last place trophy is massive.
  • Soda Can Shakeup: The Jellies use soda cans to propel their bed kart forward.
  • Tantrum Throwing: When Edward sees that despite how he won the race, all of the other trophies are bigger and fancier than his 1st Place trophy, he angrily throws his trophy to the ground and stomps on it while screaming that it's not fair.
