Calvin has invented a transmogrifier (or put some decorations on a cardboard box if you prefer) and tests it on himself, turning himself into a tiger.
Tropes
- Mr. Imagination: Calvin's commitment to the belief that the transmogrifier actually worked to turn him into a tiger is quite impressive, as we see several times that, from his perspective, he is a smaller version of Hobbes. Unlike some of his other particularly wild bouts of imagination, however, we get to see a few moments from the perspective of the parents, who see Calvin as a human boy, leaving no doubt that this is just Calvin having fun.
- Sufficiently Advanced Bamboo Technology: Calvin's transmogrifier is a cardboard box with a flimsy dial on the side that can point to a few different animal species. If you want to use a different species, you write the species name with a pen on the box and point the dial at it. However, in Calvin's mind, the thing still works perfectly.
