"White Gold" is the 14th episode of Season 9. It is the 194th overall and originally aired February 1, 2013.
A fatal car-jacking case leads to the discovery of a smuggler, but all is not what it seems.

Tropes for the episode:

  • Chairman of the Brawl: A suspect uses a bar stool to knock Lovato's gun out of her hand and knock her down. Flack subdues him before he can do any more damage.
  • Dramatic Sit-Down: Mac & Danny go to a pizzeria to notify the victim's family. His uncle takes the news very hard and starts to wobble. Danny tells him to sit down and he does so on the nearest stool.
  • Dumpster Dive: Sheldon has to examine a body while it's lying in the bottom of a dumpster. Fortunately for him, it had been emptied not long before the victim was placed there.
  • Going by the Matchbook: Sheldon & Don find a matchbook stuck with blood to the victim's back. They follow the clue to the bar where he hangs out.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Sheldon to Danny's after they discover what Paul was actually transporting in his van:
Danny: If you'da told me this morning that we'd be investigating a cheese case, you know what I'da said?
    Sheldon: Please don't.
    Danny: No whey!
    Sheldon: [groans] I thought I said "don't."
  • Nephewism: The uncle had taken in and raised his nephew after the boy's parents were killed in a car crash when he was nine years old. Even though he's now grown and helping run the pizzeria, the man still refers to him as "my boy" and "my Paulie."
  • Worthless Treasure Twist: The perps mistake the packages the victim is smuggling for drugs. They are actually bricks of mozzarella cheese.
