A sniper using exploding bullets wreaks havoc in NYC. Mac spars with Chief of Detectives Ted Carver over how much to reveal to the public. Sid is injured during an autopsy.

- Ballroom Blitz: One of the sniper's targets is a woman at an office party in a high-rise.
- Exact Words: Chief Carver tells Mac their higher-ups have ordered them "not to utter the word 'sniper'" during their press conference. Mac is adamant the public has a right to know in order to protect themselves, so Carver tells him to just stand there. A reporter draws Mac into it, and he chooses his words carefully. Another reporter then says something to the effect of, "Lemme get this straight: an unknown shooter, a high-powered rifle, a shot from a great distance, through a window. Sounds like a sniper to me." Mac pauses, glances at Carver, then replies matter-of-factly, "Me, too." The press conferences ends and Carver is livid.Carver: [angrily] What should I tell them?Mac: [smugly] Tell them I never uttered the word 'sniper.'
