While investigating the shooting death of a college student outside a flower shop, Mac, Sheldon and Don are called to the scene of a family court judge's murder just two buildings away. Meanwhile, Ruben Sandoval's mother, Rikki, steals Danny's gun to go after the man who caused her son's death.
Tropes for the episode:
- 555: Danny skips work to go after Rikki. While hunting him down, Flack calls dispatch to get them to trace Danny's cell phone. He gives the number as 212-555-0121.
- Reliably Unreliable Guns: A shotgun dropped from a rooftop bump-fires upon hitting a stone gargoyle on the way down, killing the college student.
- Roofhopping: Mac, Sheldon and Don get from the rooftop of one crime scene to the second scene by crossing over the tops of the buildings rather than going back to ground level. Downplayed in that the first gap has a wooden bridge and the second is close enough for them to jump across easily.
- Writing Indentation Clue: Don figures out where Danny went when he fails to show up for work by noticing the indentions on Ruben's funeral program laying beside Danny's laptop, which is open to a website he'd been browsing and taking notes from.
