"Raising Shane" is the 11th episode of Season 3, and the 58th overall. It originally aired Nov 29, 2006.

Synopsis:

Shane Casey makes a repeat appearance and frames one of the investigators for a robbery/homicide. After the rest of the team are pulled from the case, Danny and Stella look into the death of a man found only in his boxers in front of a peep show booth. Meanwhile, Mac and Peyton have their first major disagreement.

Tropes for the episode:

  • Clear Their Name: In spite of being removed from the case, the team try to help Sheldon as much as they can. Mac goes so far as to lock himself in an interrogation room with him, quickly begging Sheldon to tell him everything he can before Deputy Inspector Gerard gets the door open and throws him out of the precinct.
  • Frame-Up: Casey, who has been out to get everyone involved with his brother's incarceration, frames Sheldon, who was the Medical Examiner at the time, for crimes he himself committed in order to get Sheldon locked up so he'll know how it feels and to use him to force Mac to reopen his brother's case.
  • Percussive Pickpocket: Casey pulls a reverse pickpocket twice in this episode.
    • First, by bumping into Sheldon during his nightly jog and slipping stolen cash into the front pocket of his hoodie.
    • Secondly, by bumping into Mac in a crowded mall while wearing a disguise and slipping a cell phone into Mac's jacket pocket. He then calls the phone to taunt Mac and get him to chase him.
  • Pun-Based Title: It's a play on the phrase "Raising Cain." The fact that Ian Casey was Shane's older brother who committed a murder makes it that much more fitting.
  • Wrong-Name Outburst: After Mac quickly shuns a public display of affection from Peyton when he hears Stella coming around the corner, she gives him the cold shoulder. As he tries to make up with her the next day, Peyton interrupts him saying no excuse would be good enough. Still trying to get her to listen to his apology, he accidentally calls her by his late wife's name, Claire. Needless to say, that only upsets her more; she turns her back on him and walks away.
