"Stealing Home" is the 22nd episode of Season 2, and the 45th overall. It originally aired May 3, 2006.

Synopsis:

The opening has the team fishing a mermaid out of the river. Mac & Stella leave Danny & Lindsay with that one and head to another crime scene where a man has been shot through his right eye on his doorstep. Two women come running from opposite directions, both claiming to be his wife.

Tropes for the episode:

  • A Threesome Is Hot: Played with.
    • The original married couple add a third person to their relationship as a way of spicing up their sex life, and even hold a ceremony to make their union official. But the "committed threesome" eventually get bored as well, so they add a fourth member. The original wife gets jealous of the new woman, sleeps with the new guy to get access to his gun, and shoots her husband for brushing her off.
    • Sid tells Sheldon from experience that he'd thought it would be great, but found out it's not all it's cracked up to be. Sheldon leaves before Sid can squick him out with the details.
  • His and Hers: Exaggerated. Sheldon finds towels embroidered with "Hers," "His," and "Hers" on a rack in the bathroom.
  • Law of Inverse Recoil: The shooter is inexperienced and, therefore, suffers from "limp wrist." The detectives site the injury as evidence of guilt.
  • Not Good with Rejection: The shooter's motive is jealousy over being replaced as their lover's number one choice.
  • Open Relationship Failure: A dead man found shot through his right eye on his doorstep turns out to have been killed by his wife, who was jealous that he always made love to the woman they'd formed a "committed threesome" with first (even after they'd added another guy to the mix as well), and had laughed at her and told her to get over it when she'd explained how it made her feel.
  • Polyamory: Even before they own up to their fourth member, the wives in the "threesome" tell Mac and Stella that they "sleep together, have sex together...all the normal things."
  • Too Much Information:
    • Judging by his facial and verbal reactions, Mac is particularly disturbed by learning details of the threesome's relationship.
Stella: We need to take a closer look into their arrangement.
Mac: I'm not sure I can *take* much more.
    • Upon learning that a fourth person (who is employed by the banking chain Mac uses) is involved, he says to Sheldon as they leave the branch, "Remind me to change banks."
