Go To

The fifty-second episode of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command (forty-fifth in production order). In this sequel to "Wirewolf", Ty Parsec is discharged from Star Command after the incident on Canis Lunis. However, NOS-4-A2 and XL capture Ty and use a rock from Canis Lunis' moon to turn him back into the Wirewolf in order to seize Planet Z for their own evil ends.

Tropes associated with this episode include:

  • Antagonistic Offspring: NOS-4-A2 returns to Planet Z and takes over Zurg's entire empire.
  • Bad Boss: The Grubs tell NOS-4-A2 it will take a day or two to finish constructing the device he wants. NOS-4-A2 says they have ten minutes to finish and lets Wirewolf into their lab to make his point.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Downplayed and Played for Laughs. Buzz is upset that Zurg will return to power following this episode. That is until the scene transitions to Planet Z where Zurg does indeed return to his empire but all his operations are completely destroyed, meaning it'll be a long time before he could ever be a threat to the Galaxy again.
  • Call-Back:
    • NOS-4-A2's ability to convert robots into vampiric minions comes back here as he transforms Zurg's hornets into Vampire Hornets.
    • This episode acknowledges that Zurg is NOS-4-A2's creator.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After being used to power NOS-4-A2's cannon, once Buzz frees him, Ty takes down the energy vampire for good.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Ty and XL get this.
    • Ty is not only freed from the curse of the Wirewolf but also gets his revenge on NOS-4-A2 and is reinstated into the Space Rangers.
    • XL turns good and rejoins Star Command and finally reunites with XR and Commander Nebula.
  • Eviler than Thou: Thanks to vampirizing the Hornets ahead of time, NOS-4-A2 has no trouble overthrowing Zurg.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: XL when insisting that a famished NOS-4-A2 still needs him for assorted tasks, only to realize he's already done those given items.
  • Fastball Special: Buzz distracts NOS-4-A2 allowing XL to fire XR into the cannon and take it out.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom/Red Eyes, Take Warning: Everyone except Buzz and XR transforms into Wirewolves, complete with glowing red (or in some cases, green) eyes.
  • Heel–Face Turn: XL returns to Star Command after he aided Buzz and XR in stopping Nos-4-A2.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: When a pinned Buzz first advocates switching sides, XL absolutely asserts that he won't be talking his way out of this one.
    XR: Maybe he is.
    XL: You think?
XR: Oh, sure. There's no use fighting it.
XL: Well, maybe I better listen then.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: NOS-4-A2's final fate.
  • Let's You and Him Fight: Zurg gleefully awaits Buzz taking down NOS-4-A2 so that he can reclaim his throne. He even changes his signature "Curse you Buzz Lightyear" line to "Bless you Buzz Lightyear".
  • Lovable Coward: In the face of multiple Wirewolves, XR is thrilled by Buzz advocating retreating from danger for a change.
  • Monster Mash: The vampiric NOS-4-A2 teams up with the Frankenstein Monster-like XL to use the resident Wirewolf to wreak havoc on the galaxy.
  • Properly Paranoid: Commander Nebula reluctantly removes Ty from Star Command out of worry that the Space Ranger might transform back into the Wirewolf and attack his fellow rangers. He even cannot take Team Lightyear's word that they completely destroyed the moon that causes Ty's transformations. He's proven right.
  • Reforged into a Minion: NOS-4-A2's plan is to harness Ty's Wirewolf powers and transform every living being into more wirewolves so that he can feed on them. Booster and Mira are the first to transform.
  • Sequel Episode: To "Wirewolf".
  • Something We Forgot: As Buzz laments that his hated enemy got off scot free in all this, we see Zurg pathetically trying to put his house back in order and having no minions to help him.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Realizing his useful is just about up, a panicked XL says NOS-4-A2 still needs him to get something specific for him.
    NOS-4-A2: Buzz Lightyear?
XL: Uh, yeah, sure. That'll do. I, uh, I better go get him now. Bye-bye!
  • Tempting Fate: Heading into the air to avoid the transformed Mira and Booster, XR expresses certainty that he and Buzz are finally safe. Then the transformed Mira and Booster demonstrate flight capability.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Vampire Hornets are far more resistant to the Space Rangers' attacks. Other than that, that's it.
Buzz: They've been empowered with awesome dark energies...
Mira: ....and yet they're still as dumb as shovels.
  • The Usurper: NOS-4-A2 takes over Zurg's empire in order to accomplish his goals.
  • Villain Team-Up: NOS-4-A2, XL and Ty, albeit against the latter's own will.
  • Wham Episode: NOS-4-A2 is destroyed, Ty is freed from the Wirewolf curse and XL joins Star Command.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Buzz and XR convince XL that NOS-4-A2 will devour him once all his missions are accomplished. NOS-4-A2 even says the exact trope to XL just as he was about to finish him off.
