Recap / Burn Notice S 7 E 6 All Or Nothing

Michael is conflicted when he asks Fiona to help him steal intelligence data for Sonya. Sam and Jesse help Barry track down an old girlfriend.

  • Armor-Piercing Question: Frakes hits Fiona for suggesting that Cody flipped on the company and took a deal from the police.
Fiona: If I'm a lying bitch, where the hell is Cody? He's not with me. He's not with the hackers on the floor, so where is he, huh?
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: When Michael says he wants to meet the big boss, Sonya has this reaction, due to knowing the full extent of what joining the Family entails.
  • Death Glare: Ahead of playing the distraction, Fiona gives Michael one, as Cody starts getting grabby.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Fiona has to keep Cody distracted, while Michael gets to work in the server room. As Cody has been rather lecherous towards her, she is very unhappy about it.
  • Everyone Can See It: Sonya points out it wasn't hard to figure out that Michael and Fiona have a history together.
Sonya: You don't strike me as a snow globe collector.
  • Eye Contact as Proof: In the server room, Frakes wants to settle who's telling the truth by demanding Cody look him in the eye. Cody lies to his face, but Frakes looks at him suspiciously, suggesting he's not buying it. Michael makes it moot, anyway, by pointing out what the computer Cody worked on is currently doing.
  • Flashback: As Michael saves Fiona from falling and gets her back onto the roof, a few clips of more tender moments from previous episodes are played.
  • Godzilla Threshold: With Michael detained by Frakes and facing getting shot, Jesse comes up with a plan: he and Sam pose as cops, claim to Cody that the acquired security footage proves they have the goods on the Collective, and set him up to look bad to Frakes instead. It works, but Jesse was upfront about how this was quite a Hail Mary play.
  • Holding the Floor: Thinking Michael's up to something, Frakes orders him to get back to work and promises to shoot him if he proves unable to be the expert hacker he claimed to be. Having no actual hacking abilities, Michael stalls for time any way he can (e.g. talking at length and blaming the system not working properly), until an opening to escape comes up. Luckily, by the time Frakes is really running out of patience, Jesse's plan is already in motion.
  • Mugging the Monster: The salesman at the car dealership won't answer any questions and doesn't feel intimidated by people who admitted to not being cops, so he pulls out a gun. Jesse's casual bit of wrist-twisting demonstrates why that was a bad idea. Sam does him one better by clubbing the nearest expensive car with a pole.
  • No One Gets Left Behind: With Frakes detaining Michael and threatening to shoot him if he can't prove his worth, Sonya is prepared to bust in guns blazing, saying she's not leaving a man behind. Sam fully agrees.
  • No Sympathy: At the dealership, Sam tries to get some answers by taking a pole to a car. The salesman's panicked reaction leads to this exchange.
    Salesman: That's a $50,000 car!
Jesse: That was a $50,000 car. More like 45 now.
Sam: Let's go for 40! [raises the pole again]
  • Only Sane Man: Rather than "storm the castle" to rescue Michael like Sam and Sonya were suggesting, Jesse points out the obvious dangers for all concerned. He comes up a simple but still risky plan involving posing as cops and conning Cody into finishing Mike's job in the server room.
  • Properly Paranoid: Frakes doesn't think the sudden security camera malfunction is just some random loose connection. He also finds it very suspicious that Michael just so happened to be near the server room when this was happening. He holds Michael at gunpoint and tells him to prove his hacking skills or else.
  • Race Against the Clock: Sonya estimates 20 minutes to finish the job in the server room, but due to Cody constantly poking in on subordinates, Michael would only have six minutes before his absence would be noticed. Mike needs Fiona to act as a distraction to buy more time, only for Frakes to stumble onto things in the process.
  • Rage Breaking Point: When Sonya cautions Michael about what it takes to join the Family, she says that she didn't have the kind of life or bonds that he'd have to give up to do so. Michael just explodes into a Suddenly Shouting rant about how he already has given up so much. Some of it is to maintain his cover and fool Sonya, but some of it is also genuine frustration over Fiona dumping him, everyone else having moved on with their lives, and Nate being dead damaging his relationship with Maddie.
  • Shout-Out: When posing as a cop, Jesse goes by Detective Tibbs.
  • Suddenly Shouting: When Michael pushes to meet with the big boss of the Family and join up officially, Sonya talks about how he'd have to leave everyone in his old life behind.
Sonya: Don't throw them away lightly.
Michael: I HAVE GIVEN UP EVERYTHING!
  • This Is Gonna Suck: After all the work rappelling down the building, drilling through the wall, and accessing the system, Michael and Fiona are about to wrap up when they suddenly hear a creaking noise. The pipe securing Fi's rope is about to give way.
    Fiona: What was that?
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Barry loses out on Tricia, but his business is back in good shape, thanks to Michael getting his clients' information back from the hackers and telling him where the stolen money can be found.
  • Trauma Button: Barry admits he was going to propose to Tricia, but he never got around to it before going to jail. Him reflecting on this missed opportunity hits both Michael and Fiona.
Barry: You miss your moment and then it's gone.
  • What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?: Sonya asks Michael if he enjoyed the relationship with Fiona while it lasted, saying she never had that kind of experience and admitting she's curious about it.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Barry is in no mood to help Team Westen early on, due to ending up in prison the last time he helped them out. When reminded of the pardon that got him out, he retorts it only came after a few months, by which point he lost a girlfriend, a house, and a lot of business.
  • Working with the Ex: Obtaining the intelligence data forces Michael and Fiona to pose as business partners. Mike offered to let her opt out early on, but Fi refused on the grounds she didn't want to owe her freedom to him.
  • Would Hit a Girl: When Fiona covers for Michael by saying Cody took a deal from the police, Frakes calls her a liar and slaps her, giving her a bloody lip.
