Recap / Burn Notice S 5 E 12 Dead To Rights

Go To

Agent Pearce caught Michael in the one spot he couldn't avoid a camera, and now he's under arrest. The team manage to talk her into allowing the meet with Tavian, but things go wrong pretty quickly.

  • Air-Vent Passageway: Discussed and justified. The facility they're in deals with biohazards so has to have a massive air system, just about the only kind a grown man could fit into.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: Anson reveals he posed as a substitute therapist to milk Maddie for information about Michael, who is quite displeased to hear this. Anson then does one better that leaves Michael completely speechless.
Anson: It's your father you should be upset with. The things that man gave us before he passed away.
  • Better to Die than Be Killed: Tavian takes a dive off the fifth floor of a parking deck rather than answer any questions.
  • Big Bad: Anson Fullerton, the man who founded the organization that burned Michael.
  • The Chessmaster: Anson gets Larry out of prison, hires him without revealing himself, has Larry kidnap him and put a bomb on a random woman, and force Michael to help him break into the British consulate. Anson kills the woman early so Fiona will be motivated to finally kill Larry. Since the consulate is protected with bullet proof glass, she has to use a bomb, and Anson set up several other bombs to kill other people, framing her for blackmail. Now he's got leverage Michael can't resist. Michael would gladly sacrifice himself, but never Fiona.
  • Crazy-Prepared: When getting the drop on him, Larry chastises Michael for not having a gun on hand. He adds he already found the hidden back-up gun in the nearby crate.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Anson describes the formation of the Burned Spies Organization this way, saying he just realized how such raw talent was going to waste and how it could be put to good use.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Larry gets the drop on Michael because he hid behind the gate leading up to the loft. As Mike's narration notes, all the recent stress caused him to miss the obvious warning sign (Larry's shoes by the crack) and be taken completely by surprise.
  • Frame-Up: Fiona only sets one small bomb, but Anson set some other bombs, and now it looks like Irish terrorist Fiona Glenanne is back.
  • Hope Spot: There's a second delay between Fi's bomb and the bomb in the lobby.
  • Ignored Epiphany: Anson says he initially thought trying to recruit Michael would be more trouble than it was worth, but a session with Maddie made him think Mike would be easier to break.
  • Killed Off for Real: Fi finally takes Larry out. Unfortunately, somebody else planted some bombs as well.
  • Noodle Incident: Larry's escape from an Albanian prison involved a warden who's not six feet under.
  • Properly Paranoid:
    • Turns out Michael was right about the organization that burned him. There was something missing. The man who built it.
    • Said man himself notes he initially disagreed when Michael was first proposed as a candidate for the organization, saying something in his gut just told him he would be trouble.
  • The Reveal: Meet psychiatrist Anson Fullerton, the man who created the organization that burned Michael.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: The two security guards get enough characterization for it to be a little unpleasant when they die.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Larry was never the most pleasant or stable individual, but Michael getting him sent to an Albanian prison since they last met has made him even worse. He puts on the same air of Friendly Enemy persona before saying he'd gladly shoot Michael in the neck for the slightest defiance.
  • Wham Episode: We meet a new player, Larry finally dies, and now Fiona's the victim of a blackmail scheme.
  • Who Are You?: Michael asking this in the loft prompts Anson to reveal his role in the Burned Spies Organization.
