Recap / Bones S 9 E 19 The Turn In The Urn

Go To

Midway through a funeral honoring one of the Jeffersonian's premium donors, the team is shocked to witness the supposed deceased walk through the doors. This results in a rather odd question: if the donor is alive, then who is in the urn? The investigation soon reveals a possible serial killer. Much to their delight, Finn and Hodgins' hot sauce business takes off, but happiness is short-lived when Michelle returns to Washington DC with distressing news for Finn.

Tropes

  • Artistic Licence – Physics: Bones claims that the corpuscular theory of light is just a fact of life (like billionaires), but that theory hasn't seen much use since the nineteenth century, fter which it was replaced by theories based on actual experimental evidence.
  • Attending Your Own Funeral: Brennan and Booth are attending the funeral of one of the museum's donors when the donor walks in and sends everyone away. It turns out it was a friend of his who'd died, and they were similar enough in appearance that the decomposition (not to mention that the death occurred in a private vault that the donor was more likely to be in) made it "obvious" who'd died. The donor himself didn't show up beforehand because he'd been in a locked-down rehab facility and only heard what happened when he'd returned.
  • Taking the Heat: The rich donor hears about evidence of "diamond dust" and realizes who actually killed the victim, and confesses to the killing. Booth doesn't buy it.
