The remains of a competitive eating champion are discovered days before another major competition is set to be underway, casting shadows on all of the deceased's former competitors. Meanwhile, Hodgins gains a new rival in Jeffersonian intern Finn Abernathy, whose shady past may put his job at risk. In addition, Booth is upset when he learns that Brennan learned the sex of their baby without him.

- Dark and Troubled Past: Finn's stepfather was an abusive piece of shit, so he went after the guy with a knife and ended up in juvie.
- Insult of Endearment: Hodgins dismissivly calls new intern Finn Abernathy "Opie", after the character in The Andy Griffith Show. Abernathy counters by calling Hodgins "Thurston." By the end of the episode they've gained respect for each other, but still use the same nicknames.
- One Dialogue, Two Conversations: At one point, Booth and Sweets are talking to the husband of the murder victim and he is describing his support of his wife being a competitive eater but in a way that makes her sound like a prostitute and he got to watch.
