Go To

A high school boy's dead body is discovered wrapped in cloth and holding a rose from a botanical garden. His girlfriend tries to take the blame.

Tropes:

  • Blatant Lies: Though Kayla tries to convince Booth and Brennan of her guilt, they see through it immediately.
  • Mirror Character: The victim's girlfriend is a foster child. Brennan can relate.
  • Pedo Hunt: When the sandwich lady found out her husband had been using her to get at young girls for years, she shot him dead.
  • Taking the Heat: The victim's girlfriend tries to take the blame for the murder the sandwich lady committed as well as the one her foster brother committed. The former only serves as further proof that she's innocent as the sandwich lady can't accept Kayla being punished for a crime she didn't commit and gives herself up.
  • The Tragic Rose: The rose found on the body, a reference to the line "That which we call a rose by any other word would smell as sweet" from Romeo and Juliet. Later Hodgins gives another to Angela after she becomes upset by the tragedy of the situation.
