- Actor Allusion: In-Universe, BoJack suggests that his first scene in The BoJack Horseman Show have him taking a dump on a VHS copy of Horsin' Around, his old show.
- Dumbass DJ: A couple of these announce that the year is 2007, later lampshading how weird it is to say that it's "two months later", as one of them is having a stroke.
- Foregone Conclusion: Two previous seasons have already established that BoJack is only known for Horsin' Around, so it's a foregone conclusion that the show Cuddlywhiskers and BoJack are working on is doomed.
- Furry Reminder: This episode has possibly the most furry reminders of the whole show:
- Princess Carolyn scratches at the pillow with her paws before waking up.
- BoJack's thank you gift to her is a box with crinkly paper in it.
- Mister Peanutbutter hates watching tennis because no one ever catches the ball.
- Historical In-Joke: Mister Peanutbutter mentions that Michael Vick made him "a very strange offer", which alludes to Vick's involvement in a dog fighting ring that was discovered in 2007.
- Last-Second Word Swap: Emily is about to say "I love you" to Todd, but instead she swaps out "you" for "Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed".
- It Will Never Catch On: Marv rejects the scripts for No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood because the titles were more than two words long.
- This Is Going to Be Huge: Several examples:
- BoJack is the proud owner of an HD-DVD player.
- A skywriter is shown advertising John from Cincinnati (and two months later strikes through the same message).
- Mr. Peanutbutter gets a gig fundraising for "the next President of the United States": John Edwards.
- Jessica Biel is excited for her part in what she was told would be a "a very important gay rights movie": I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry.
- Self-Deprecation: Jessica Biel was reportedly disappointed at how easily the original script was letting her off and demanded they really go for the jugular.
- Shout-Out: The entire concept of The BoJack Horseman Show, as well as the circumstances of its creation and failure, (i.e. a successful TV comedian following up the show that gave him his big break with an extremely audacious and incomprehensibly experimental eponymous show which flops immediately) are based on the real-life circumstances surrounding The Dana Carvey Show. Specifically, BoJack managing to alienate his entire audience by opening the first episode with him shitting on the floor references how six million viewers stopped watching Carvey's show after the first skit, where he played Bill Clinton breastfeeding farm animals.
- Whole Episode Flashback: The episode takes place during the year 2007.
