"It's awful!"

"I'm go take some more aspirins. How many can I take? Like, 20?"
—Bob, hungover

The family searches for a missing Easter Egg, whose smell is driving them insane and threatens to get them evicted from their home.

Tropes for Days:

  • Adoring the Pests: As usual, Linda is far too attached to the raccoons that loiter in the alley. When Bob expresses his frustrations about Big Baby Pudding Snatcher refusing to leave the crawl space, Linda defends her stating she's just looking out for her kids and it's not her fault. This causes Bob to snap.
  • Alcohol-Induced Idiocy:
    • Right before they hide the eggs, Bob and Linda drink 100 proof jellybean schnappsnote  that is all but stated to be bootleg, with predictable results.
    • Mr. Fischoeder relates another one of his anecdotes to the Belchers:
Fischoeder: I lost the year 1996 to schnapps. I still don't know what the Macarena is. Don't tell me; I'll figure it out.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Gene implies he has some less-than-savory things he needs to delete from his search history... and Tina quickly reveals he looks up exotic candies.
  • Blatant Lies: Linda claims she always wins the egg hunt, shortly before Bob points out that she lost the past three years in a row.
  • Call-Back:
  • Calling the Old Man Out: After Bob and Linda start accusing each other of cheating and ruining the egg hunt, Louise finally snaps and screams they both ruined the egg hunt. The kids admit they've hated the egg hunt for years because Bob and Linda sucked all the fun out of it. Gene wasn't even sure if they were supposed to like it in the first place.
  • Comically Missing the Point:
    • When Bob (correctly) states Big Baby Pudding Snatcher is a female because of the kits, Linda gets angry that Bob would assume only a female raccoon would have babies, as if she was talking about human adoption rights.
    • Likewise, when Bob asks why Linda's eating pudding in the alley (which is how Big Baby Pudding Snatcher got her name), Linda asks "Where else am I gonna eat it Bob, in the bathroom? That's gross."
  • Companion Food: Gene kept a turkey sandwich as a pet for a year, and it predictably went bad.
Gene: Steve Turkel. He was my best friend.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: In many ways:
    • If Tina had just gone along with her siblings' plan to tell their parents they hate the ultra competitive egg hunt, the whole mess would have been avoided. Tina refuses not because she likes the hunt, but because she doesn't want to hurt her parents' feelings.
    • Gene's typical laziness in eating one of the eggs but not a second to make an even seventy, even after being asked. This wouldn't have prevented Linda from hiding an egg in the vent since it wasn't the last one hidden, but it does mean the family isn't aware of a missing egg until it starts to rot.
    • Bob and Linda drinking an entire bottle of 100 proof bootlegged jellybean Schnapps leads to several mistakes. They don't count the egg total, Linda thinks it's a good idea to hide a boiled egg in a vent and Bob neglects to mark the map of where every egg is.
    • Instead of using plastic eggs with sealed candy inside, Bob and Linda's usage of real eggs causes the stink. A fake egg, even with candy inside, wouldn't rot, let alone cause such a stink.
  • Easter Episode: The episode revolves around a competitive Easter egg hunt going awry, leading to a missed egg going off and the family having to locate it.
  • Embarrassing Browser History: When Louise points out that Bob might not want "racoons, babies, wall" in his search history, Gene is horrified to learn that search history even exists, and hastily volunteers to go find the family laptop.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Mr. Fischoeder doesn't want to say the word brothel in front of the kids.
  • Holiday Episode: As of the present day, it's the only Easter episode of the series.
  • It's All About Me: Bob and Linda use the egg hunt contest as an excuse to one up the other by forcing the kids to dye and find six dozen eggs in order for them to get their Easter candy. The winner's determined by the owner of the last egg the kids find, and the hunts usually take the entire day to finish.
  • Last-Second Word Swap: Mr. Fischoeder is about to tell Bob he was on his way to a brothel, but upon realizing the kids are there he says he was on his way to a brothelizer showcase.
  • Noodle Incident: Mr. Fischoeder once drank so much schnapps he completely blacked out throughout all of 1996.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Linda technically wins the egg hunt, but at the cost of everyone's sanity and senses of smell (although Linda doesn't seem to care about that).
  • Rage Breaking Point: Bob finally snaps after dealing with the rotten egg and Linda defending the raccoons hiding in the crawl space, declaring she caused all this by hiding the egg in the vent.
Linda: She's a mom. She's looking out for her kids. It's not her fault!
Bob: You're right Lin, IT'S YOUR FAULT!
    Linda: What?! My fault?!
Bob: YOU PUT AN EGG IN A VENT!
Bob: No, this isn't a win! You don't get to win when you cheated!
    • This leads to Louise snapping that it's Linda's and Bob's fault because they ruined the egg hunt.
  • Riddle for the Ages: Who made and sold the jellybean Schnapps that Linda bought? All we know is she bought it from someone in the supermarket parking lot.
  • Serious Business: Bob and Linda take the whole game oddly seriously.
  • Shout-Out: The Store Next Door is "Lin Manuel's Veranda Patio Furniture".
  • Swapped Roles: Normally Louise is the one who refuses to take the easy way out of a problem, like simply talking about it, while Tina will be the shouted down voice of reason. This time, Tina is the one who avoids Louise's suggestion of just telling Bob and Linda how they really feel about the egg hunt.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Zigzagged in regards to Gene, who was responsible for the uneven number of eggs because he didn't eat a second one like Linda told him to. Linda's flashback showed she hid the egg in the vent when she still had plenty of eggs in her bowl, so even if Gene had eaten a second egg, it just would've made the egg hunt go longer. That said, his refusal to eat both eggs prevented Bob and Linda from realizing an egg was still missing until after it started to rot.
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: Bob and Linda get so drunk from jelly bean schnapps that they can't remember where they hid the eggs.
