This picture makes sense in context...kinda.
When Louise claims that she can't be scared, Bob and Linda decide to prove her wrong by creating their own haunted house. But things soon go awry and the Belchers find themselves in genuine danger.

The Trope-ening:

  • Ambiguous Situation: If Boyz 4 Now really did swap Allen with another person. On the one hand, there's no visual difference in Allen's appearance that can't be explained by Art Evolution, and there's also the question of why they would bother doing such a thing anyway. On the other hand, Tina is a bit too quick to try and deny Linda's claim, suggesting she's in denial.
  • Batman Gambit: The rest of the family successfully pulls this off to scare Louise. They knew she'd be prepared for anything, so they deliberately lowered her guard with a fake haunted house (that was intentionally awful) so that she wouldn't be prepared for the real haunted house.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Played with, when it first looks as though the Belchers are about to be killed with the irony being Louise is finally getting scared like she claimed she wanted. Then it turned out no one was in any danger and Louise gets exactly what she wanted with no horrible consequences.
  • Blatant Lies: When Mort's mom asks if the ring of fire they set on her lawn is going to hurt her grass Mort assures her it's "non-burning" fire.
  • Bring My Brown Pants: Linda’s exact advice to the kids for their trip to the haunted house.
Linda: You might want to wear pants you don’t care about, because you’re gonna be peeing in them!
Louise: Scare me enough and I’ll pee in your pants.
  • Call-Back: Louise still has a crush on Boo-Boo, no matter how much she tries to hide it.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Teddy and Mort are seen in the opening scene. It's later revealed that both were involved with the haunted house.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Linda feels the need to defend the crappy haunted house she pulled off with Bob to lull Louise into a false sense of security, despite the fact that they made the first one crappy on purpose.
  • Compressed Hair: Linda manages to hide her entire head of hair under a bald cap for her disguise as the two-headed monster. She wears the bald cap for much of the episode, only taking it off when Bob asks why she still has it on.
  • Contest Winner Cameo: In-Universe. The girl in the Boyz 4 Now video won an essay contest. Tina says that it had to be under 30,000 words, and she wasn't able to cut hers down to that few.
  • *Crack!* "Oh, My Back!": The horrible screeching sound that came from the basement was actually made by Mort who screamed in pain when he threw his back out.
  • Creepy Basement: The Belchers hear creepy noises coming from the basement, so they go down to investigate. What they find is a dark, creepy basement with a mysterious cloak hanging in it that they mistake at first for a ghost.
Gene: Just a fun family trip to the basement to get killed!
  • Creepy Doll: While trying to find a place to hide in the house, the Belchers stumble upon a room containing a baby doll with sharp tree branches jammed in its eyes. They decide not to hide in there.
  • Cult: Teddy, Mort, and Mort's mother pose as cultists during the final phase of the haunted house.
  • Dance Party Ending: The credits depict the Belchers dancing and singing along to "I Love You So Much (It's Scary)".
  • Dénouement: When the Belchers explain how they pulled off the plan to scare Louise.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Arthur (the old man with the gardening shears) can be seen glaring at the Belchers when they first drive to the homemade haunted house.
  • Enemy Rising Behind: Arthur approaching Louise from behind the bathroom window. This is what finally gets her to scream.
  • Epic Fail: Bob and Linda try to put together a haunted house to scare Louise. To put into perspective how badly they did, the kids managed to put together a more convincing scare in five minutes compared to the whole week Bob and Linda spent planning the house. Subverted when it turns out they invoked this trope in order to lower Louise's guard with the real haunted house they had planned.
  • Failed Attempt at Scaring: The entire episode's premise is that Louise doesn't scare easily, every other attempt their parents make to frighten her on Halloween met with her usual snark.
  • Faux Horrific: Gene is more scared of the counters and backsplash in the kitchen than Bob’s Mad Scientist act for the haunted house.
  • Frankenstein's Monster: Linda dresses up as "Lady Bobbenstein", a creation of "Dr. Bobbenstein" (Bob) made from the parts of beautiful dead women.
Gene: And they didn't have any other ankles? Just asking.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: In the opening from Season 2 onwards, Jimmy Pesto can be seen in the reflection of the exterminator van. In this episode, he's replaced by a skeleton wearing Jimmy's Italian flag tie.
  • Good All Along: The old man chasing the Belchers with gardening shears is Mort's mother's new boyfriend Arthur, who's actually a fairly swell guy.
  • Good Parents: Discussed; Gene tells Bob that he's doing a good job as they hide out in the bathroom. The lengths that Bob and Linda go to in order to provide their daughter a good haunted house experience also make them qualify for this.
  • Group Hug: Louise initiates one after celebrating finally being scared.
  • Halloween Episode: Bob and Linda take their kids to a haunted house that they made themselves to celebrate Halloween.
  • It's Probably Nothing: Bob tries to reassure the rest of the family that the creepy things happening in the house aren’t being caused by a ghost and decides it’s probably a murderer. When he sees how much this panics them, he changes his answer to “it’s probably just the wind...inside wind.”
  • Michael Jackson's Thriller Parody: Downplayed and subverted with Boyz 4 Now's video for "I Love You So Much (It's Scary)." There is a "Thriller" reference when the girl transforms into a monster, then starts dancing like Michael Jackson (Gene even lampshades it by calling it "a reverse 'Thriller'"), but it's mostly a parody of Backstreet Boys' iconic horror-themed video for "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)," complete with each group member dressed as a different famous monster. And just for good measure, they also recreate the red-and-orange void room from *NSYNC's "It's Gonna Be Me" video.
  • Oh, Crap!: Linda explains that the house they're in belonged to one of Mort's clients (it later turns out to be Mort's mother's). Gene freaks out, realizing that as a mortician, all of Mort's clients are dead.
  • The Other Darrin: In-universe; Linda implies that Allen is in reality two or more people, claiming to Bob that Boyz 4 Now occasionally swaps them around. Though there's no evidence of such a thing occurring, Tina is rather quick to deny it, and Bob notes that if true, Teddy wouldn't like it (as Allen is his favorite member).
  • Please Put Some Clothes On: Gene, apparently because he was too hot, took his clothes off to hide in a pile of leaves and scare his parents which triggers this exchange between him and his dad.
Bob: Gene, you’re gonna put your clothes back on, right?
Gene: Oh, am I? You’re the one making it weird, Dad.
  • The Radio Dies First: Bob claims his cellphone has no signal when they need to call for help. He then drops it off the roof when he tries again.
  • The Reveal: The Belchers were never in danger, it was all part of a plan to scare Louise that only she wasn't aware of.
  • Ring of Fire: The climax of the episode sees one appear around the house.
Linda: We’re surrounded by a ring of fire!
Tina: Who has a ring of water?
  • Rule of Three: Things start getting creepy for real when the Belchers hear something in the basement, the phone line dies, and the lights go out.
Gene: It’s literally a triple threat!
  • Security Cling: Each of the Belchers grabs onto Bob as they go into the basement. Louise denies that she's doing so for this reason, though.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Linda mispronouncing "Bobbenstein" as "Bobbensteen" may be a loose reference to Young Frankenstein where the lead character Dr. Frederick Frankenstein insists that his name is pronounced "Fronkensteen."
    • Tony! Toni! Tow-me!, a car towing business Bob picks out from the 90s phonebook is a reference to 90s group Tony! Toni! Toné!
  • Stylistic Suck: Bob and Linda's haunted house was terrible on purpose, as part of their elaborate plan to scare Louise. Linda however still gets defensive about the first haunted house despite that it was deliberately terrible.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: Louise denies that she cares or even knows about Boo-Boo's birthday the previous week. In that order.
  • The Titling
  • Vehicular Sabotage: As part of the prank, Teddy lets the air out of one of the tires. He also cut the brake lines because he felt that would make it scarier, which Bob does not appreciate.
  • Vocal Dissonance: The Belchers heard a horrible, demonic screeching in the basement that later turned out to have come from Mort.
  • Wham Line: As Louise is screaming, the Belchers try to calm her down. As she stops, she then faces Bob, who has only one thing to say:
    Bob: Gotcha.
  • Wham Shot: Gene taking a photo of Louise screaming.
  • Xanatos Gambit: The fake haunted house works no matter what. If it scares Louise, that's exactly what Bob and Linda want. If it doesn't scare her, they've lowered Louise's guard for the real haunted house.
  • You Meddling Kids: Subverted. When discussing how they set up the haunted house, Gene begins to say "And we would've gotten away with it" before realizing that, because Louise got scared, they did get away with it.
