Recap / Bob's Burgers S6E13 "Wag the Hog"

Go To

When Critter gets locked up, Bob and the kids go on a quest to sell a motorcycle for bail money. Meanwhile, Linda looks after Critter and Mudflap's son, Sidecar.

Wag the Tropes:

  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Critter has dealt drugs and killed cops, but what he finally got nailed on was unpaid parking tickets.
  • Ass Shove: Critter gets a second call from Bob thanks to a phone that was smuggled into the jail cell in this manner. Everyone who handles the phone holds it with only a couple of fingers because of where it's been.
  • Broken Pedestal: The One-Eyed Snakes are mad at Critter for leaving the gang to raise Sidecar. Bob manages to turn it into a case of Rebuilt Pedestal by talking about how Critter can make time for both, as well as Bob's experiences with his own kids and how parenthood isn't a bad thing, in addition to deciding they simply need to understand his situation as a new father.
  • But Thou Must!: Hilariously subverted. Critter asks Bob if he's willing to sell the motorcycle. When Bob says no, Critter lampshades that he probably shouldn't have given Bob that option. Critter has to call Bob again to convince him.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Carl tries to claim that the motorcycle under the tarp is actually a horse named Butterscotch, Tina genuinely believes him even after Kenny removes the tarp. Eventually, Carl point-blank tells her that Butterscotch isn't real, but Tina isn't 100% sure.
  • Cringe Comedy: Kenny's attempts to rev the motorcycle.
  • Cut His Heart Out with a Spoon: When Bob and Kenny go to Carl's place to get back the motorcycle he stole from Kenny and Bob is pretending to be a biker to hopefully intimidate Carl into giving it back, Louise tells Bob that his biker character should be called Moustached Manny and that he once ate someone's eyebrows for looking at him funny. Bob tries it on Carl but he's just confused.
  • Enfant Terrible: Sidecar is not well-behaved when he misses his nap. His tantrum teaches another baby its first word: Help.
  • Freudian Slip: Linda gives Sidecar the name Simon when she acts like he's her son. Calling him Sidecar in front of one of the other moms gives her away.
  • Hopeless with Tech: Despite working at a tech company, when Critter brings Bob a printer as a gift for getting him out of jail, he somehow manages to confuse it with a phone charger. When Bob points it out, he asks where Bob was during his training yesterday.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Gene apparently thought stalkers were trustworthy until one stole Critter's bike.
  • I Just Want to Be Badass: Kenny and Carl, two investment banker nerds who love outlaw biker stuff. In actually, they are both pretty pathetic and childish.
  • Insistent Terminology: Critter's motorcycle isn't stolen, it's made from stolen parts.
  • Irony: For all Critter's insistence that the bike isn't stolen (just made from stolen parts), it later gets stolen by Carl.
  • Jail Bake: Played with—Gene says that if he gets arrested, he wants his parents to smuggle a cake that contains a smaller cake.
  • Never My Fault: Even though Kenny and Carl both wrecked Critter's bike together, both refuse to pay for it until it's fixed.
  • Noodle Incident: Sidecar's babysitter has skipped college exams before.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Linda's first offense was by lying to the moms at the play center that Sidecar was her son instead of simply saying she's babysitting him. Then she lies about his name being Simon, and when she's finally caught (because she slipped up and called him by his real name), she makes it sound like she kidnapped him, which almost gets her arrested.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: When the One-Eyed Snakes remark that they should be more tolerant of Critter's schedule, one of the bikers adds "and other races".
  • Simple Solution Won't Work: Bob points out to Critter that he could just call the cops to report the bike theft. Critter states that they actually can't, because the bike (or parts of it, as Critter claims) was stolen when Critter got it.
  • Sleeves Are for Wimps: Critter is not a fan of the sleeves on his work-shirt. He apparently tried cutting them off, only to get chewed out by his manager.
  • Soul-Sucking Retail Job: Invoked. Critter's tech job is a genuinely good, high-paying job, but Critter acts like it's one of these. It probably doesn't help that he's a former biker and his manager is a 19-year old boy.
  • Stalker without a Crush: Carl tails the Belchers so he can steal Critter's motorcycle.
  • Stout Strength: Bob manages to push the motorcycle when all three kids are weighing it down, though it takes a lot of effort.
