"I think this might develop into a party type situation."

"It's no fun being a burger man in a seafood town."
—Bob

When the city's annual Lobster Festival gets cancelled due to a storm, Bob takes advantage of it in order to create his own festival out of spite to Lobsterfest. Meanwhile, the kids attempt to taste lobster against their father's wishes.

Tropesterfest:

  • Adam and Eve Plot: Linda almost insinuates that the kids will have to do this once the hurricane is over in Lobsterfest (which Gene is not on-board with), until she clarifies that they will have to mate with other children in basements. Tina is suddenly interested.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Hugo, when he learns that Gretchen is into authority figures, including mailmen, "if they have an important route," he says that he is too. When Bob asks him if he really likes "mailmen," he only repeats "if they have an important route." He's also clearly interested in Gretchen.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Gretchen jokes that she was involved in a groping accident in her last job... as the groper.
  • Bestiality Is Depraved: Implied; when Gene reads Tina's post-apocalyptic mating list, he notes that two of them are mythical creatures, suggesting they're not humanoids.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: When Gene sees Tina's list of possible mates after the apocalypse.
Gene: "Gay, gay, mythical creature, gay mythical creature... ooh, good luck..."
  • Comically Missing the Point: Linda has never realized Bob was allergic to lobsters. Bob reminds her of their first date, where Linda assumed him turning red and acting as though he can't breathe was because he was incredibly shy.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?:
    • Louise treats Lobsterfest as a religious holiday, and uses a similar excuse to try to get out of a Lobsterfest-related lesson.
Louise: My family doesn't observe Lobsterfest.
    • The act of eating lobster is very unsubtly compared to having sex by the kids, primarily Gene and Tina. Gene wants his first time to be in a hot tub, and Tina even wants it to be only at her wedding. Louise is the exception—being Louise, she doesn't use her first time eating lobster as a metaphor for sex but rather outlines her plan to use lobster to escape prison under the guise of it being her last meal on death row.
    • Gretchen refers to the size of Hugo's badge as if she is talking about something else. She mentions that a small badge is not trouble, but that Hugo didn't know how to use it.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: This episode is the first speaking part for Ms. LaBonz, but she lacks the smoking induced raspy voice she would later use.
  • Forbidden Fruit: Louise talks of lobster as this. The fact that Bob doesn't let them anywhere near lobsters and Lobsterfest makes them curious about tasting it.
  • Funny Conception Story: When Gene gets excited to see John Van Horton at Lobsterfest, Bob tells Gene that he was conceived to a John Van Horton song. Gene says, "And I plan to return the favor!"
  • Improvised Weapon: Louise's fantasy about eating lobster for the first time involves her being a death-row inmate having it as her last meal. She chose it specifically so she could use the claws to attack the guards and escape.
  • Kick the Dog: Mr. Frond browbeats some poor kid into confessing a highly embarrassing, highly confidential secret, then does nothing when Louise causes the situation to escalate into a mass panic.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: The meteorologist on the TV at the start of the episode is depicted with visible teeth, which other characters on this series are rarely if ever drawn with.
  • The One That Got Away: How Louise refers to the lobster they decide not to cook, but ultimately subverted when they accidentally drop it in the boiling water and eat it anyway.
  • Plot Allergy: Turns out Bob's animosity towards Lobsterfest is because he's allergic to lobster. It also turns out Gene inherited his allergy, as he swells up after eating a lobster the kids catch.
  • Prisoner's Last Meal: For Louise, who imagines herself as a death row prisoner, lobster would be her last meal before being executed. She would then use the claws to attack the guards and escape.
  • Red Live Lobster: Averted. Gene, Tina, and Louise come across an escaped lobster, which is the greenish-brown of an uncooked lobster. They plan to cook it because their father, who finds lobsters disgusting due to his allergies, has never let them try any.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Gretchen turns out to be a good friend of Linda's... who was never seen or mentioned before.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: As it turns out, Bob was right to forbid his kids from eating lobster, but not because of anything Lobsterfest-related—rather, it turns out that Gene is badly allergic (just like Bob himself is).
  • Romantic Wingman: Bob plays this to Hugo, and even got a song dedicated to him sung by Ron.
  • Schmuck Bait: Louise tricks Gene into taking off the rubber bands on a lobster while he's holding it. Gene proceeds to find out the hard way why the rubber bands are there.
  • Snap Back: Safe to say Bob's Burgers doesn't remain shut down, even after the ending here.
  • Sudden Downer Ending: Gretchen dumps Hugo, who shuts down the restaurant in a fit of rage.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: The entire city, who refuse to help Bob even though they destroyed his restaurant. Linda calls them out on this when they threaten to lynch Bob for (accidentally) contaminating their supply of butter.
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: When Bob wakes up from a night of drunken partying, he initially thinks the damage to the restaurant caused by the party-goers was caused by the storm.
