Recap / Bobs Burgers S 13 E 13 Stop Or My Mom Will Sleuth

Go To

When Louise is accused of a theft at school, Linda uses her position as school office volunteer to try and solve the case from the inside. Meanwhile, Bob helps Teddy design a new business card.

Stop! Or My Mom Will Trope!:

  • Booby Trap: All of the Belchers assume Louise's room is rigged with several. When Bob manages to sneak into Louise's room and get out unscathed, everyone (including Bob himself) is shocked.
    Gene: Must've been a malfunction.
  • Brick Joke: Near the start of the episode, Ms. Selbo tells Linda if she wants coffee from the teacher's lounge to get it before Coach Blevins fills up his giant thermos. Halfway through the episode, when Linda talks to Louise during her gym class, Linda sees Coach Blevins drinking his coffee and comments to herself, "Oh yeah, that is a big thermos."
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Ms. Selbo, who shows up a few times throughout the episode as Linda sneaks in the office to find evidence, turns out to be the culprit.
  • Entitled Bastard: Teddy forces Bob to help him make a new business card with Bob's laptop, then completely disregards Bob's input that he begged for.
  • Groin Attack: The mash missile has a bad habit of hitting kids in the groin when launched.
  • Jerkass: Frond is a little worse than usual here. While he has justification for thinking it was Louise who stole the Burobu toy, he clearly isn't sorry for blaming her for something she didn't do. Given that she once went out of her way to prove he was innocent of yogurt theft.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: When Linda calls Bob about the theft, Bob points out that between Louise's track record and her obsession with Burobu, he can see why Mr. Frond thinks Louise is the culprit.
  • Karma Houdini: Ms. Selbo never gets found out for stealing the mash missile since Louise and Linda cover it up. Though to be fair, she had a valid reason to do it.
  • Not Me This Time: In spite of her track record and the mountain of evidence piling up against her, Louise really didn't steal the mash missile.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Bob and Linda have one when checking in with each other and realizing the evidence both of them found just makes Louise look guiltier.
    • Linda has another one when she spots the stolen toy in a secret locker... that belongs to Louise.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The episode title is a reference to Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot.
  • Running Gag: Yet again, Teddy thinks Bob's name is Bob Burger.
  • The Reveal: Ms. Selbo stole the mash missile because of how dangerous it could be to kids.
  • Secret Handshake: Tina comes up with a secret signal for contacting Linda while she's volunteering. It's just a hand wave.
  • Shout-Out:
  • That Came Out Wrong: Bob points out that Teddy might not want a business card that just reads "The Handy" with his phone number on it.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: Linda's long list of it expands to include shoplifting and pyromania.
  • The Unapologetic: Frond starts to apologize to Louise for falsely accusing her of theft, but it's clear he doesn't really mean it when he uses the bell ringing as an excuse to cut himself off.
  • You Were Trying Too Hard: Teddy completely overthinks making a new business card, feeling the need to give himself "a catchy business card name" and overloading it with unnecessary symbols. Bob's input, that Teddy begged for, is repeatedly shot down and by the time Teddy asks Bob if it's "too much" Bob immediately says he told Teddy multiple times that it was indeed too much.
