Recap / BoBoiBoy S1 E4 "Kidnapped!"

Go To

Probe recaps on the Multi Monster's defeat and his own capture of Ying the previous episode. BoBoiBoy and Gopal plan to warn Yaya. Meanwhile, Probe disguises himself as an old lady to approach Yaya. She sees through his disguise, but only punches him away when he "insults" her biscuits. Adu Du takes matters into his his own hands by flying the spaceship towards her, and she soars off. Yaya evades incoming missiles, but when one heads toward an elderly person, she races forward to halt it from the front and punch it into the sky. The elderly lady turns out to be Probe again, but he and Yaya are taken by the spaceship's Tractor Beam before she can do anything.

BoBoiBoy and Gopal realise they're too late, and head to ask Tok Aba for help. Tok Aba suggests a plan in which they let the aliens capture Gopal. That evening, Gopal is abducted in his sleep. He wakes to find himself trapped onboard, and remembers that he was supposed to pretend to be asleep so he could let BoBoiBoy in to infiltrate the ship, which the latter ends up having to do himself. Adu Du seeks to find Gopal's power to steal it for himself, and sets up weapons to attack Gopal in the room he's trapped in. It's when he manages to turn them all into food that Gopal finds out what his powers are.

As Adu Du plans on using BoBoiBoy's friends' powers to defeat him, BoBoiBoy sneaks in and quietly frees Yaya and Ying, just avoiding Adu Du's wrath and making it to Gopal. They try to escape Adu Du's efforts to destroy them by eating a wall which Gopal changes into chocolate, and the Multi Monsters appear and help eat through it. They all head for the exit, but are faced by several laser guns powering up from the walls. Ying frightens Gopal by chasing him with a Multi Monster clone, enabling his power to transform the spaceship's interior into food. They jump out of the spaceship as it falls and escape, leaving the ship in no condition to chase after them.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Advancing Wall of Doom: Adu Du attempts to crush the heroes in the room they're in with a giant wall closing in towards them from the opposite corner. Yaya uses her Super-Strength to hinder it while the others eat through the wall that Gopal changed into chocolate. It's after the Multi Monsters help dig their way through it that Yaya lets go and flies towards the chocolate wall, merely avoiding getting crushed against it.
  • Booby Trap: After freeing his friends behind the aliens' backs, BoBoiBoy locks the door behind them with a lightning bolt, which electrocutes Probe when he attempts to pursue them.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: When the captive heroes remark that no one knows what Gopal's powers were, Adu Du replies that he is aware of that - and had been waiting for three episodes already.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: In the Malay audio, when Yaya and Ying witness Gopal turn a sawblade into pizza, they in turn exclaim "Really-" "-cool!", then Probe echoes it as a full sentence in genuine awe of Gopal's feat, earning him a mug to the head by Adu Du.
  • Die or Fly: Gopal finally unlocks his powers when his life is endangered, turning a sawblade into pizza and a bomb into chocolate. Justified since his powers are amplified by his fear.
  • Finishing Each Other's Sentences: In the original Malay, when Gopal turns a sawblade into pizza, Yaya and Ying in turn say "Really-" note  and "-cool!" In the YouTube English dub, it's instead Probe who finishes their sentence by saying "cool", earning him a mug thrown at his face by Adu Du.
  • Kidnapped While Sleeping: The plan to infiltrate Adu Du's ship to free Yaya and Ying is for Gopal to be captured so that he could unlock the door from the inside for BoBoiBoy to get in. However, Gopal was only supposed to pretend to be asleep (which he forgets) and thus gets lifted via Tractor Beam, only waking up on board the ship.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: Right after Gopal realises what his powers are after inadvertently turning Adu Du's traps into food, Adu Du deploys one final attack - of plasma machine guns, heat-seeking rockets, and "all of them" - while mashing a large array of red buttons that reveal several kinds of blasters pointed at Gopal from all around him. But Gopal makes a radial counterattack in the form of an orb, which he unleashes to turn all the ammunition into candy that falls harmlessly.
  • Unspoken Plan Guarantee: Inverted. Tok Aba tells BoBoiBoy and Gopal that his plan to free Yaya and Ying starts with letting Adu Du capture Gopal, then tell the rest of the plan off-screen. The spoken part goes well, but flashback reveals that the unspoken plan actually failed, because Gopal forgot that the rest of the plan depended on him pretending to sleep.

"Pretend to Sleep"

The plan to inflitrate Adu Du's spaceship is for Gopal to feign being asleep so he could get BoBoiBoy in from the inside, only for Gopal to actually fall asleep and get kidnapped.

How well does it match the trope?
