Recap / Bluey The Sleepover

Go To

Bluey and Bingo are excited because Muffin is coming for a sleepover and they get to stay up late. However, when Muffin arrives, she looks tired and is behaving erratically. Stripe explains that Muffin still takes naps, but is in the process of giving them up and can get sleepy in the evenings on days where she misses her nap. When the Heeler sisters ask if they can still stay up late, he drives off.

Chilli wants to put the tired, erratic Muffin to bed early, but Bluey and Bingo want to stay up late, so Chilli allows them to play one game. The kids decide to play "restaurant", pretending to be a married couple with Muffin as their "daughter", who they call Sheila, and they decide to deliberately take as long as possible. Chilli acts as the waitress, while Muffin runs around like crazy.

Bluey decides to continue the game and takes Muffin to a pretend chip shop run by Bandit. Muffin shakes the "shop", and then Bluey refuses to "pay" for the chips as that would end the game. She tells Muffin to run with them, which she does, and Chilli chases her, pretending to be police.

She catches Muffin and tells the girls that Muffin needs to go to bed, and that her daughters needed to let her look after Muffin. Muffin then "drives" off in the toy police car, crashing into the inflatable pool and later attempting to ride away on a lawn flamingo. Bluey, realizing that putting Muffin to bed is more important than staying up late, convinces Muffin to "hide" from Chilli in her sleeping bag, where Muffin quickly falls asleep.

The next morning, Muffin has caught up on her sleep and can't even remember the previous night, asking Bluey why there's a flamingo in her sleeping bag.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: It doesn't take much to compare Muffin's sleep-deprived antics to going on an intoxicated rampage; she picks fights with inanimate objects, crashes a toy car, and doesn't remember anything from the night before when she wakes up the next morning. note
  • Exhaustion-Induced Idiocy: Muffin is very sleep-deprived due to being in the middle of transitioning away from daytime naps, so she does things like pick fights with inanimate objects and yell random nonsense.
  • Hard Truth Aesop: "The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry." Bluey and Bingo were really looking forward to having a sleepover with Muffin and staying up late, and Chili even promised they could. But the unforeseen problem of Muffin being sleep-deprived not only compromises Chili's previous promise, but also tests Bluey's adaptability to accept they can't stay up like they wanted.
  • The Night Owl: Bluey and Bingo are excited at the idea of staying up late.
  • Non Sequitur: Lampshaded by the rest of the cast, as Muffin's sleep deprivation causes her to shout strange things (the one said most is "Coconuts have water in them.")
  • Shout-Out:
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: When Muffin wakes up in the morning, she doesn't remember any of her sleep-deprived antics from the previous night, leading her to ask Bluey why there's a flamingo in her sleeping bag.
