Recap / Bluey The Beach

Go To

On a day trip to the seaside, Bluey decides to follow her mother down the shore on her first solo adventure.

Tropes:

  • Beach Episode: Apparently. The aptly-named episode has the Heelers going to the seaside, with Bluey deciding to follow her mom after the latter takes a long stroll across the shore.
  • Book Ends: Towards the beginning, Bandit informs his daughters how Chili likes walking the beach alone, and when Bluey asks why it's so, he shrugs that she just does. In the end, the exchange is almost verbatim: Bluey voices she's come to like walking the beach alone, and when her mother wonders why, Bluey shrugs that she just does.
  • Face Your Fears: Downplayed. Bluey is initially too intimidated by the pelican to continue on her journey. But between seeing how far from "home" she is and noticing her mother's footsteps are ahead, she decides to face the pelican head on...by nervously scooting around it.
  • Furry Reminder: When Bluey's path is blocked by a flock of birds, she scares them away by running at them while barking, much like a real dog would.
  • Good-Times Montage: The Heelers are shown having fun at the beach together from sunbathing to playing at the waves, framing the playful nature of the story.
  • Like Mother, Like Daughter: Bluey comes to develop this trope in the form of a love of walking along the beach alone. It may not be in the same way as her mother, but by the ending, she voices that she's come to like the solitude that comes with it.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: Bluey's latest game involves a mermaid who gets her legs for only just one day.
  • Shout-Out: One of the scenes from the montage is Chilli lying in the same pose as the iconic Australian photograph Sunbaker, taken in 1937 by modernist photographer Max Dupain. The shot was later recreated for the February 2023 issue of Australia Instyle.
