Recap / Bluey Pavlova

Go To

Mum won't let Bingo have the pavlova in the fridge, so the kids find a way to get some by playing a cheeky game of Café in the kitchen. But Dad the chef sets up a competing shop that only serves edamame beans.

Tropes:

  • Animation Bump: In a shot showing the crumb of pavlova Chef Bandit is serving Bingo, the animation style changes and becomes more detailed.
  • Bilingual Bonus: Anyone who's more studied in French language will know that Bandit's French persona is just spouting nonsense, like "I am the dog" or "Where's the disco?"
  • Funny Foreigner: Chef Bandit. Bingo even says she likes his funny talk.
  • Gratuitous French: Chef Bandit only speaks in French, and he says random phrases which translate as things like "I am the dog" and "I look through the window".
  • Insulting from Behind the Language Barrier: Bandit plays the role of a French chef, speaking entirely in Gratuitous French (albeit in random utterances such as "I am the dog!"). At the end of the episode, he calls Bluey a "booger", with Bluey being none the wiser until Chilli points it out.
  • Malaproper: Being young children, both Bluey and Bingo keep mispronouncing the word "edamame".
  • Shaking the Rump: Bandit does this to taunt Bluey while she chases him for calling her a booger in French.
  • Sweet and Sour Grapes: Bingo agrees she'll help Chef Bandit in the competition against Bluey's cafe, but on one condition: she doesn't want to be forced to try the edamame beans, she wants the freedom to choose what she wants. While she does ultimately try Bluey's pavlova, the episode ends with her trying the edamame out of curiosity and discovering she likes it!
