Recap / Bluey Octopus

Go To

When Chloe tries to teach her dad to improvise and play Bluey's game of Octopus at home, he finds it hard to understand or enjoy, until they both realize they can play it their own way.

Tropes:

  • Artistic License – Biology: Discussed. For the "Octopus" game, Frank wants the octopus to be scientifically accurate whereas Chloe wants it to be like the made-up one in Bandit's version of the game. They come to a compromise.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Chloe and Frank come to an understanding once they see both sides of the issue. On Frank's side, Chloe sees that real-life octopi can be just as interesting as the made-up one in Bandit's game. On Chloe's side, she's able to convince her dad that the octopus in Bandit's game doesn't have to be scientifically accurate in order to be fun, and can simply be an exception to the rule.
  • Creative Sterility: Initially, Frank isn't able to play "Octopus" the same way as Bandit because he's more of a literal thinker. He gets better towards the end, once he and Chloe brainstorm their own way of playing the titular game.
  • Innocently Insensitive: When Frank isn't able to play Octopus the same way Chloe did with Bluey and Bandit, Chloe calls Bluey's dad more fun than hers, unintentionally saddening him.
  • Lower-Deck Episode: The episode focuses on the relationship between Frank note  and Chloe, as opposed to Bandit and Bluey.
  • Meaningful Echo: Earlier, when Chloe and Frank think up a middle ground for how to play games like "Octopus", Chloe's solution is that if the animal in the game is inaccurate, they can permit that "Yes, this [octopus] does that". Later, when Bluey asks if they can play the game so the octopus is poisonous and electrical, Chloe and her father exchange knowing glances before they affirm "Yes".
  • Shout-Out: Chloe's house number is 101.
