Recap / Bluey Markets

Go To

When Bluey gets money from the Tooth Fairy, she goes to the markets with Bandit and Bingo. After running into Indy, she decides to spend it on something they’ll both enjoy. However, that's not as easy as it sounds.

Tropes:

  • Bowdlerize: The infamous scene of the horse pooping is cut from the US broadcast.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Bluey has a hard time finding something to spend her money on that she and Indy can both enjoy, and she feels guilty after using it to buy a candy apple since Indy can't eat anything with sugar in it. However, Bluey’s money eventually ends up in Indy’s hands through a series of purchases made by other people at the markets, and they finally find something they can do together—dance to a musician's performance.
  • Here We Go Again!: The episode ends with Bluey losing another baby tooth to her candy apple.
  • Mood Whiplash: When Bluey realizes she doesn't have enough money to give both herself and Indy a pony ride, she sadly says farewell to the pony, marking a meaningful moment in which she's sacrificing what she wants for the sake of not excluding her friend. It responds by pooping, comically ruining the bittersweet mood that was set.
  • New-Age Retro Hippie: Indy's mother, who wears dreamcatcher earrings and a crystal around her neck, has very long hair/ears, and doesn't allow Indy to eat anything with added ingredients, wheat, gluten or sugar.
  • Spit Take: Bandit does this after finding out that Bluey got five bucks from the Tooth Fairy.
  • Tempting Fate: When Bluey realizes that she made a mistake spending her tooth fairy money on the candy apple, she tells Bandit that she'd like to exchange it back. To this, Bandit explains that money doesn't work like that: once it's bought and paid for, it's gone for good...until by chance, her money finds its way to Indy, allowing her to use it to buy her and Bluey something they can share.
  • Toilet Humor: When Bluey says good-bye to the pony she almost rode, its response is to casually defecate in broad daylight, much to her and Indy's fright and disgust.
  • True Companions: If this trope didn't apply to Bluey, she would have an easier time deciding what to buy for herself. But Bluey proves too loyal to Indy to buy herself anything her friend can't enjoy alongside her. And she hardly needs any prompting beyond seeing Indy a bit saddened at being left out. In turn, Indy is understanding towards Bluey and recognizes how guilt-ridden she is at having used up her money on the candied apple.
