Recap / Bluey Fancy Restaurant

Go To

The Heeler girls ask their parents to kiss, finding it romantic. Chilli is surprised that her daughters even know what romance is, and she suggests they teach Bandit about it. The girls decide to set up a pretend, fancy restaurant, and Chilli decides to play that Bandit is her new boyfriend and they're on their first date.

Bluey plays as the head waitress and tells Bandit (who's calling himself Romeo McFlourish) that he's not on the list and has to call and make a booking. When he and Chilli get in, Bingo plays as a chef and serves them baked beans, but Bluey takes her away, saying she's not supposed to serve them yet. She then hands them pretend menus and claims not to know what the special is. She asks Bingo what it is, but she doesn't hear, so Chilli "orders" the baked beans.

Bandit walks up to the girls and tells them to serve something more romantic than baked beans, and they agree and decide to play some "romance music". However, Bluey just plays music badly on a toy synthesiser. Chilli pretends to use a pretend bathroom, while Bluey yells at Bandit for not kissing Chilli. He claims that he's forgotten how to be romantic since he and Chilli haven't smooched in a while.

As Chilli comes back from the fake bathroom, Bluey tells Bandit again to be more romantic, then runs to Bingo, who is making a bizarre combination of food. Just as Bandit is apologising for losing his romantic touch, the girls come in with Bingo's food mess. Chilli pretends to eat it, but the girls demand she actually eat it. Bandit does instead, but it makes him sick.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: On the chalkboard is a drawing of a dog in a chef's hat, then Bingo actually wears one when being a chef.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Chilli and Bandit have reignited their romance once more, but at the expense that Bandit is nauseated by the "fancy meal".
  • Blatant Lies: Chilli tries to call Bluey's music lovely despite holding her head.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Bingo says, "You have to eat it for real life", even though it's usually Bluey who says, "for real life".
  • Buffy Speak: Bluey uses "romance" as a synonym for "romantic".
  • Canine Confusion: Bandit turns green after he eats some of Bingo's awful food even though dogs can't go green through their fur when they're nauseous.
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: Chef Bingo's idea of a fancy meal is to serve a gelatin mold heaped with everything except the kitchen sink. This includes pickles, spaghetti, a sandwich, peas, sausage, and gravy. When Bandit eats it in Chili's stead, we cut to Chili taking Bandit outside to vomit out the "fancy" meal.
  • Damned by Faint Praise: Chilli tries to pretend to like Bingo's disgusting dinner, but all she can say is that it's "special".
  • Facepalm: Bluey puts her palm to her face when Bandit asks Chilli, "Did you have a nice time in the toilet?".
  • Funny Background Event: While Bluey and Bandit make use of Chilli "going to the toilet" to argue on how it took so long for the latter to do a kiss, we can actually see Chilli actually pretending to use the "toilet" in the room's corner, wall-sitting and all.
  • Furry Reminder: The girls wag their tails several times.
  • Green Around the Gills: Bandit goes green from eating the bad food.
  • Grossout Fakeout: Chilli pretends to use the toilet at the pretend restaurant.
  • Hesitation Equals Dishonesty: When Chilli is trying to lie that she likes Bluey's "romance music", she says, "It's... lovely."
  • I Resemble That Remark!: While he and Chili bond over how raising children has made them forget how to be romantic, Bandit is about to point out that one of the factors is how they get interrupted so often. ...just as Bluey interrupts him with how their "dinner" is ready, driving home that in this household, interruptions are indeed common.
  • No Indoor Voice: Waitress Bluey's version of asking Chef Bingo about the specials is abruptly yelling across the house.
  • Obstructive Bureaucrat: When "Romeo" doesn't have a reservation, hostess Bluey forces him to call the restaurant to make one while he's standing right in front of her, then when the phone call is over, greets him again and asks if he has a reservation.
  • Saying Sound Effects Out Loud: Bandit says, "Ring ring" when pretending to call the restaurant.
  • Short-Distance Phone Call: Bluey the hostess insists that the only way to make a reservation at the restaurant is by calling in, forcing "Romeo"/Bandit to call her while standing right in front of her.
  • Shout-Out: Bandit's fake first name is "Romeo".
  • Slapstick: Bandit falls off his chair.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: Bandit throws up at the end of the episode, but it cuts to the credits before you see him do it.
