Recap / Bluey Faceytalk

Go To

Bluey and Bingo love to video chat with Muffin and Socks so they can all draw pictures together. When Muffin won't give Socks a turn, the kids discover what happens when they hog.

Tropes:

  • Blatant Lies: When Bluey sees her ukulele under Muffin's bed, Muffin claims that she's still playing with it, even though the fact that it's under the bed implies that Muffin hasn't done so in a while.
  • Bowdlerise: The scene where Muffin barges in on Trixie in the bathroom was altered in American releases so that the camera is zoomed in on Muffin's face. Trixie's squeal can still be heard though.
  • Easily Forgiven: Subverted. After her parents reconcile from a heated argument over how Muffin should be disciplined, with Trixie being adamantly opposed to time outs, it seems they may go a bit easier on Muffin after getting the phone she stole from Stripe. Unfortunately, Muffin makes a run for it and accidentally drops the phone into the pool. Both parents immediately put her in a time out, making it clear to her that she's more than abused their patience at this point.
  • Found Footage Films: While the camera occasionally cuts away to an outside perspective of Bluey and Bingo, most of the episode is presented as footage of the Faceytalk session.
  • Full-Name Ultimatum: Stripe says "Muffin Cupcake Heeler" while trying to lay down the law to his daughter.
  • Funny Background Event: Inverted. While Socks is drawing on the tablet, Muffin is seen behind her trying to run away with her dad's phone, but trips and accidentally gets it thrown into their swimming pool.
  • Here We Go Again!: Defied in the end. Bluey immediately gives Bingo a turn when she asks, having seen what happens when you don’t share.
  • Hypocrite: Muffin accuses Socks of hogging the video call even though she does that herself for much longer, to the point of refusing to listen to Stripe when he asks her to give Socks her turn.
  • Karmic Nod: When Muffin's parents put in her time-out after she accidentally drops Stripe's phone in the pool, Muffin resigns to her fate, recognizing that there's no point in pretending she doesn't deserve otherwise.
  • Mood Whiplash: Things become uncomfortable when Muffin gets into the bathroom, and her parents start having an argument behind her. Bandit winds up needing to get the call muted until they're done.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Bandit gets one when he sees that Stripe and Trixie are fighting and he gets his daughters to put the call on mute.
    • Muffin gets one after Stripe and Trixie resolve their argument and Bluey lets her know her parents are right behind her.
    • Bluey and Bingo get one as they watch Stripe’s phone fall into the pool.
  • Only Sane Man: On one end of the call, Bluey. She finds Muffin's behavior unacceptable and actively attempts to discourage her sister and father from enabling it. On the other end of the call, Socks. She continues to draw a garden throughout Muffin's tantrum and is visibly unaffected by it.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: When Stripe tries to get Muffin to give Socks a turn after she keeps insisting on finishing her cowboy hat drawing, Muffin retaliates this way:
Stripe: If you say "cowboy hat" one more time, you'll be in time out.
    Muffin: Cow. Boy. Hat!
  • Pushover Parents: Initially, Trixie is opposed to disciplining Muffin with a time out because she read a blog advising against them. However, after Muffin's continued misbehavior results in Stripe's phone getting tossed into their swimming pool, she and Stripe both immediately put her in a time out.
  • Rooting for the Empireinvoked: A harmless example. Bingo and Bandit both try to help Muffin avoid her parents despite knowing that she is very obviously in the wrong and acting like a spoiled brat. Bluey even lampshades it multiple times.
  • Temporarily Exaggerated Trait: Muffin's Bratty Half-Pint tendency is played up in this episode. She hogs the tablet from Socks to draw her cowboy hat despite her dad Stripe repeatedly telling her not to. Then she steals Stripe's phone and runs away with it, only to then drop it into the swimming pool.
  • Tranquil Fury: So, Muffin has made a chaotic mess of her parents' day. She rebelled and put up a fuss when he told her it was Sock's turn on the tablet, stole his phone, ran away from him, and disrupted her mother's quiet time in the process. But it all comes to a head when she (if by accident) drops Stripe's phone into the pool below. Staring on at the metaphorical last straw, Stripe and Trixie's only response is a restrained but cross "Muffin? (...) Time out." No raised voices, no edge to their voices, just the heavy implication that she's in hot water. Muffin doesn't even argue at that point.
  • Unfazed Everyman: Socks, who just happily draws her garden throughout all the chaos.
