Recap / Blark And Son Murder Is A Terrible Way To Teach A Lesson

Go To

When Fletch makes Son clean the house, he pretends to hurt himself with a knife and blames Fletch for it in hopes of tricking Blark. It backfires when Blark is angered to the point that he plans to murder Fletch for revenge.

Tropes

  • Bittersweet Ending: Son learns his lesson, but it leaves both him and Fletch utterly traumatized by Blark's plan to expose the lie.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Son was incredibly bratty and disrespectful to Fletch and his lie to make Blark mad at Fletch is wrong, but Blark's lesson to teach Son that lying is wrong goes to such an absurd extreme you can't help but feel sorry for him by the end.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: Fitting to Fletch's past, he acts like one when watching over Son, making him wake up early and do chores instead of just playing League of Legends all day. While he comes across a bit rude (to the point of using scare tactics when Son tries to weasel out of cleaning), he does so out of a genuine effort to make Blark happy and Son more proactive — even saying to Blark that it was Son's idea to clean the house, giving him all the credit.
  • Foreshadowing: Notably when Blark nods to Fletch after Son's lie, Fletch just tilts his head in confusion.
  • Jerkass Realization: Done for comedically dark laughs. After a traumatized Son confesses his lie right when Blark was about to kill Fletch, he despairingly yells that he is a horrible person and runs away crying.
    • Blark has one as well after discovering Fletch was not aware of his plan to expose Son's lie, leading him to believe that Blark was actually going to kill him.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Poor Fletch only wanted to make Blark happy and Son more active, even giving Son all the credit for cleaning the house and saying it was Son's idea to do so.
  • The Reveal: Twice-over! Blark knew all along that Son was lying and the murder plot was just a lesson to teach Son never to lie again. However Fletch didn't "clock" Blark's nod at the start, meaning Fletch genuinely thought that Blark was going to kill him for hurting Son.
