Go To

  • Date First Aired: 15/01/2015

After the events of the previous episode, Dorien has looked up her daughter Naomi. She's a vicar now, which to Dorien means that they can't meet since they'll have nothing in common. The two sisters promptly get Dorien to call Naomi and they meet proper for the first time, although Dorien finds it to be a bit awkward. Naomi also reveals that Dorien has two grandchildren

Meanwhile, Auntie Vera has sent over delivery for Sharon and Tracey. She has also informed Tracey that she now have the title of "Pearly Queen of Thornton Heath". Tracey and Dorien catch up with Vera, where she reveals that Tracey's cousin Michelle was never considered for the title. However, Sharon is trying to make a bid for the title as well and the two war in a charity money collection.

Meanwhile, Dorien tries to seek Naomi at Church but is talked down by one of the people there. Nevertheless, the two greet and start to bond.

By the end of the charity collection, Sharon has outperformed, but Michelle is pissed that she had been forgotten by Vera. The two sisters and Vera realise that they've been used as pawns. Vera reveals that Michelle wasn't considered because Vera wasn't invited to her birthday party (although Michelle claims that she did, it was just disregarded). However, she changes her mind and makes Michelle her heir, considering the sisters to be a disappointment at the charity collection. Unfortunately for Dorien, Naomi is due to become Archbishop of Canterbury. In New Zealand.

This Episode contains the following tropes:

  • Abusive Parents: Dorien's mother wasn't exactly a good mother. Apparently, she said that she wasn't any Sophia Loren, and to never have children because she was, in her eyes, a failure. On her birthday no less.
  • Affectionate Nickname:
    • Tracey calls Michelle "Shells".
    • Tracey also calls Vera "Auntie V".
  • A Birthday, Not a Break: Dorien's own mother called her a screw-up in her birthday card to her.
  • Book and Switch: Naomi first learned of Sixty Shades of Green when she found it behind a hymn book at Church.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Vera doesn't receive a birthday invite from Michelle in person, so she responds by cutting her out of the running for Pearly Queen.
  • Dreadful Musician: Mr. Compton thinks that he's a concert pianist but his skills don't quite match up to it. Naomi outright apologizes to Dorien when he begins to play.
  • The Food Poisoning Incident: Dorien at first believes that it was dodgy fish and chips that caused Vera to abdicate her role. Sharon tells her that it's just a euphemism for dodgy hips.
  • The Ghost: Maxine McArthur, who used to sellotape raisins to Sharon's nose, is mentioned but never seen.
  • Gilligan Cut: Travis argues that he is not going to be dressing up like Dick Van Dyke and going out as a consort for Tracey. Cut to him at the Shopping Mall, where he is doing such a thing.
  • I Want Grandkids: Inverted. Dorien's mother told her not to have children since she felt that she would mess it up. At the age of 9.
  • Kissing Cousins: Travis is clearly enamored with a cousin of his named Lois. It helps that she's very distantly related (as in Third cousin half a dozen times removed).
  • Like Mother, Unlike Daughter: Jewish Novelist and certainly not too religious Dorien learns that her daughter was raised Christian and has become a Vicar. As a result, she fears that she and her will have nothing in common, although this proves to not be true.
  • Like Mother, Unlike Daughter: Naomi, like Dorien, has a thing for sexual trysts.
  • Long-Lost Relative: Dorien learns for the first time that she has a grandson of university age and a granddaughter.
  • Mistaken for Prostitute: Naomi was apparently mistaken for a stripogram thanks to her dog collar during her night out with Dorien.
  • Mistaken Identity: Vera briefly thinks that Dorien is actually Sharon when she first sees her.
Vera: Sharon, what the bleeding hell have you done to yourself?
Tracey: That's not Sharon, that's our mate, Dorien.
    Vera: Thank god for that.
  • Noodle Incident: Apparently, something happened to Cousin Brian that came about as a result of him lurking in corners, although we never hear any further detail of it.
  • One-Shot Character: Amanda, Michelle, Lois, and Auntie Vera.
  • Passing the Torch: Auntie Vera is retiring from her duty so she passes down the role to her adopted niece Tracey. It would have actually gone to Michelle but she didn't invite her properly to her 50th birthday, although she reverses this decision in the end.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Siblings Sharon and Tracey both become Pearly Queen and compete with each other to see who is the greatest.
  • Speak in Unison: Both Sharon and Tracey say "Oh My God!" when they learn that they've been invited to become a Pearly Queen.
  • Uninvited to the Party: Vera claims that the reason that Michelle was no longer in the running was that she didn't invite her to her 50th birthday party. However, Michelle claims that she did, she just disapproved of the paper method that she used.
  • You Know What You Did: Vera cuts Michelle out of the running for Pearly Queen without giving an explanation why. When confronted, she simply says "She knows.", only giving an explanation when Michelle replies with a confused "I don't. I really don't".
