Go To

Big Time Mansion is an episode from Season 1 of Big Time Rush.

When Gustavo and Kelly go off to North Carolina, the boys offer to watch Gustavo's mansion while they're away, but the job proves to be better said than done.

Meanwhile, Katie is jealous of all the attention Mrs. Knight gives Kendall, so she pretends to be sick to gain more attention.

Tropes:

  • Big Damn Heroes: Mrs. Knight, who was upset earlier over her son's decreasing reliance on her, sweeps in with Katie to help the boys fix the mansion before Gustavo and Kelly return.
  • Black Comedy: Gustavo getting attacked by his own pet alligator.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Gustavo never seemed to warn the Boys about his pet alligator and the moat it resides in.
  • Empty Nest: Mrs. Knight starts to suffer this as Kendall keeps asserting he's a grown-up who can look after himself and Katie being a Wise Beyond Their Years kid genius rarely asking for her help anymore. Most of the episode is averting this, with Katie Playing Sick and BTR making such a big mess at Gustavo's mansion they have to call on Katie and Mrs. Knight to clean up the mess.
  • Food and Animal Attraction: Mrs. Knight uses cat food to attract Monty back to the mansion.
  • Inevitably Broken Rule: When the band is mansion-sitting for Gustavo, he gives them five rules to follow - Don't go in his media room, don't open his living room fridge, don't sit on his couch, don't touch his cat, and don't break anything. Cue the guys breaking every single rule — in order — and causing all kinds of mess.
  • Insane Troll Logic: When Kendall insists that Mrs. Knight stop treating him like a child and that he's 16, Logan asserts all the boys together are 64, which is older than her. Then, for some inexplicable reason, Logan feels the need to ask Mrs. Knight if 64 years is older than her.
  • Faux Horrific: James once phoned the FBI because he had a bad hair day and ran out of hairspray.
  • Men Can't Keep House: The boys set off a Disaster Dominoes in ruining Gustavo's mansion. They were very sloppy, destructive and disobedient of Gustavo's rules. Unsurprising, given they're teenagers.
  • Noodle Incident: It is mentioned one of the boys used up all of James' hairspray for an unknown reason.
  • Only Sane Man: Logan tried to remind the boys what Gustavo's rules really were when they were mansion-sitting.
  • Over-the-Shoulder Carry: Carlos has Logan over his shoulder when he passes out during all of the chaos at Gustavo's mansion and James and Kendall help carry him.
  • Playing Sick: Katie does this so Mrs. Knight could give her more attention than Kendall. It goes way too far.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: Logan's best solution for the mess is for the band to flee the country and raise alpacas.
  • Sweet Tooth: Gustavo's living room fridge is filled to the brim with cups of chocolate pudding.
  • Tempting Fate: Kendall scoffs at the idea that Gustavo couldn't trust them to watch the mansion, right before he spills a big glop of chocolate pudding on Gustavo's $40k couch (which they weren't supposed to be sitting on and while they were eating said pudding from a fridge they weren't supposed to open in the first place).
  • Victory Is Boring: Gustavo succeeded in finding the perfect band to replace BTR: the Windmills. However, they're very competent (exceeding his expectations for singing skills), polite, treat him with firm respect unlike BTR and possess lots of other pointless but impressive talents. He gets irritated by not being able to denigrate or yell at them, so he agrees to ditch them and keep BTR because he didn't want his job as band manager to get dull and unchallenging.
  • We Want Our Jerk Back!: Gustavo decides to not replace and fire BTR with the Windmills as he misses getting to yell, and the Windmills being so flawless only forces him to compliment them at every turn, which he doesn't like much.
