Recap / Big Time Rush S 1 E 18 Big Time Concert

Go To

Big Time Concert is an episode from Season 1 of Big Time Rush, and the season finale.

The band's first concert is about to come, but between a rival agent, being deported, and kidnapping, are they ever gonna make it?

Tropes:

  • And the Adventure Continues: The final scene before the credits roll has this message come up following a display rack distributing BTR's first album.
    And the musical journey continues...
  • Big Bad: Hawk, Gustavo's Evil Counterpart, returns in this episode.
  • Big Good: Sebastian, as he is the Reasonable Authority Figure who is able to get James to retract Hawk's offer of having a lifetime of riches and luxuries for only using his image and not letting him sing or attend live concerts.
  • Big "NO!": Gustavo does this, complete with a Skyward Scream, when he hears that James now works for Hawk. He stops himself to drink water, then continues on.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Almost everyone in the vicinity says this when Griffin announces that Big Time Rush is canceled. He even says it himself until he regains his composure.
  • Book Ends: The season opened with the boys running away from the girls' hockey team. The season ends with team running away from their fans.
    • Also the first episode ended with the words "and the musical journey begins...". Now the episode ends with the words And the musical journey continues....
  • Chased Off into the Sunset: The boys' final scene has them running away from their fans.
  • Cone of Shame: The boys have dog collars around their necks during concert training to ensure they see their fans and not their feet. It results in limited sight though, causing them to stumble nonstop.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Played for Laughs. When kidnapped by Hawk, BTR asks if he’s gonna kill them. Hawk responds surprisingly appropriately:
James: Are-Are you gonna kill us?!
Hawk: No! That would be stupid!
  • A Glass in the Hand: Gustavo does this with his coffee mug when visiting Minnesota and Kendall initially says no to his offer to reunite Big Time Rush.
  • Glasses Pull: Guitar Dude, in an O.O.C. Is Serious Business moment, does this in shock and disbelief when he is told that Big Time Rush is no more.
  • Glass-Shattering Sound: The opera singer auditioning to replace James lets out a note so long it causes Gustavo's Cool Shades to crack.
  • Hollywood Tone-Deaf: The first potential candidate for James' replacement is rather tone-deaf.
MAKE IT COUUUUUNT/PLAY IT STRAIIIIIIGHT/DON'T LOOK DOWWWWWWWWN...
  • Hunting the Most Dangerous Game: Griffin slips by that he indulged in this before, saying that no matter how fun that was, crushing BTR's dreams was still the most fun he's had.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Katie criticizes James for living in a fantasy and pretending that they still have the band even though they don't. But when Mrs. Knight tells her to cancel all her merchandise, she responds the same way.
  • Mama Didn't Raise No Criminal: Parodied. Mrs. Knight has this when Katie tells her that she's making and selling Big Time Rush merchandise via bootlegging. She does however become more accepting of Katie's Get-Rich-Quick Scheme on the premise it'll pay for Katie to go to college - which is so that Katie can make even more money.
Mrs. Knight: How did you become like this?! I never dropped you as a baby! Not once!
  • Riches to Rags: Griffin declares the boys' tour is far too risky for their endeavors, thus BTR fades to obscurity and the boys move back to Minnesota.
  • Shout-Out: Griffin cancels the band in order to find a cheaper way to get income. So he hires Ed Begley Jr. to go to Rocque Records to make audiobooks of Dr. Seuss type books.
  • Take This Job and Shove It:
    • Gustavo is ordered by Griffin to switch his recording studio from a boy band to children's books narrated by Ed Begley Jr because they make more money for low costs. The next day, Gustavo is very perturbed by the children's books having such bizarre, nonsensical verses (since only very little children have to like it) and he reluctantly agrees to sell his mansion to restore the band.
    • Sebastian realizes how sick he is of being the servant for Hawk Records, so he quits and gets the boys to their concert fast with his limo.
  • Terrible Interviewees Montage: BTR trying to find a replacement for James. None of the auditionees are perfect.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: After abandoning their elderly neighbor twice now, Kendall feels guilty over not fulfilling the promises that he and the boys made to her, so he sends Sebastian to Minnesota to be her chauffeur limo driver since she cannot drive anymore.
