Recap / Big Mouth S 02 E 04 Steve The Virgin

Go To

Coach Steve's relationship with Jay's mother reaches fever-pitch. Lola takes an interest in Andrew.

Tropes:

  • Attention Whore: Lola, hands down. Early in the episode Matthew notes that she clotheslined three girls so that she'd be the one who gets interviewed. Later on the double date, she tries to get Andrew to pants her. When he refuses, she goes around pantsing everyone she can.
  • But Now I Must Go: Rick tells Coach Steve this now that the latter isn't a virgin.
  • Call-Back: Jay calls himself Party Wolf after he gets some Cotton Candy Brandy.
  • Date Peepers: Elliot and Diane follow Nick on his date.
  • Get Out!: Connie says this to the Shame Wizard when he attempts to bring Jessi down. While he does leave, he is not stumped by it.
  • Gossipy Hens: Hen actually, since it's only one person. The pharmacist from the pharmacy that Jessi steals from catches her and then reveals what she knows about her parents based on what they buy from her. Specifically that Shannon has double downed on her Klonopin and that Greg no longer buys viagra. Also, that DeVon might be an old man.
  • Hollywood Homely: In-universe, this reaction is discussed by Lola.
Lola: (to Andrew) You're such a nerd! But not in the cool way, like when good looking people wear glasses.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: Right after Nick promises Andrew that he won't leave him alone with Lola, he agrees to go with Devin to get soda, leaving Andrew and Lola alone.
  • Mama Bear: Connie defends Jessi against the Shame Wizard.
  • Mood Whiplash: When Jay asks Coach Steve what happened to his Gary, the latter's response is surprisingly dark.
Coach Steve: Oh, he locked me in the car with him and shot his brains out of his head. Bye Jay. See you in school.
Jay: Holy shit. I can't believe that guy fucked my mom.
  • Noodle Incident: When Coach Steve says that sleeping with a married woman (Jenna) is wrong, Rick counters that saying "So was killing and eating that squirrel."
  • Oblivious to Hints: Coach Steve doesn't realize that Jenna's propositioning him until she says it directly.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Coach Steve doesn't entertain Rick's advice or presence when he's finally losing his virginity to Jenna.
  • Operation: Jealousy: The reason Devin wanted the double date to be at mini golf was because she knew DeVon and Gina would be there too.
  • Pants-Pulling Prank: This happens multiple times throughout the episode to various characters due to President Trump declaring it National Pantsing Week.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: In order to follow Nick on his date, Elliot wears his sunglasses, while Diane puts on a hat and a fake moustache.
  • Running Gag:
    • People being pantsed.
    • DeVon being called an old man.
  • Too Much Information: Connie doesn't want to hear the pharmacist talk about Shannon and Greg's Sexless Marriage.
