It's been four years since the Miracle, and Gwen and Rhys have settled down into a nice, quiet, normal life raising Anwen and staying out of trouble. They haven't seen Jack either. Then one night, Gwen gets a call from an old woman at the Bryn Offa Nursing Home. She only speaks Welsh, but Gwen picks up the most important part - "Jack! Jack Harkness!" Gwen and Rhys head off to investigate and find an old man who claims to be Jack.
Because unfortunately, you can't just quit being Torchwood that easily. Trouble always finds you again.
Tropes:
- Continuity Nod: Rhys refers to his friend with the incredible name of Banana Boat again.
- "Freaky Friday" Flip: The Evolved are a whole society based around this, the idea being you should treat everyone well, because they could be you tomorrow. The downside is they're so self-righteous and sanctimonious they want to export this way of life to everyone. Whether they like it or not.
- Innocuously Important Episode: It's a Case of the Week, and it's barely even connected to the ongoing Committee story arc. But there are a number of important developments:
- At the end of this episode Gwen and Rhys decide they're going back into business as Torchwood with or without Jack, leading up to the Series 5 ("Aliens Among Us") status quo.
- Jack reveals the Committee were the ones behind the Three Families in Miracle Day.
- Nice Guy: Gary the nurse isn't up to anything sinister and is actually the loveliest guy in the world. This being Torchwood, it doesn't work out for him.
- Screw Politeness, I'm a Senior!: Dramatic example. When the real Mr Collins's mind is put back in his body, he turns out to be horrible, referring to Gary as "the little poof" and demanding a cup of tea at four in the morning.
- Shoot the Dog: Yet another moment from Jack: he lets the Evolved take Gary the nurse in exchange for going on their way. And the whole mess was his fault in the first place, as he was trying to get information on the Committee.
