Recap / Big Finish Doctor Who TLSS 1 E 4 The Hollows Of Time

Go To

The one featuring...wait a second, who was that villain called? Surely he's not someone familiar...

The Doctor and Peri try to put together their hazy memories of their recent "holiday" in the picturesque village of Hollowdean, including a sinister chauffeur and the mysterious Professor Stream...

It was based on a Christopher H. Bidmead script, one of three for Big Finish's "Season 23 That Wasn't" that actually was intended for production that year.

Tropes:

  • Idyllic English Village: Hollowdean is a sleepy English village.
  • Lawyer-Friendly Cameo: In the original script, Professor Stream was yet another obvious alias for the Master. When this episode was produced, rights reasons prevented the Master's return, so the amnesia element was added to imply it was the Master without making it explicit. They even cast someone who sounds quite like both Anthony Ainley and Roger Delgado. On the disk's extra features, they spend the whole thing talking about how Stream resembles an old enemy and perhaps he's secretly Davros. At the very end they finally talk candidly about the rights issues and how they had to rewrite the story so it isn't explicitly the Master. We also learn that Colin genuinely didn't realise until they told him!
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: Nicola Bryant just cannot keep her American accent when saying the word "hawser". What's more, she has to say it two or three times.
