Five of the Doctor's former companions are suddenly on a Space Station without any prior knowledge as to why they are there. As they're trying to figure out where here is, Daleks, Sontarans and Dinosaurs are in their way of finding out along with the Fifth Doctor why they are there.
- The Bus Came Back: Aside from Nyssa who's a regular in the Fifth Doctor Audio adventures, all four other companions hadn't been seen in ages.
- Call-Back:
- Steven and Ian take down a Dalek through Magnetic powers, just like in The Dalek Invasion of Earth.
- The Fifth Doctor denies he's the Doctor (to a Sontaran) saying he should be all teeth and curls or rather a distinguished gentleman.
- The Doctor mocks Chesterton for disguising himself inside a Dalek shell, despite doing something similar in the Chase.
- Ian mentions he's still with Barbara. Steven is not bitter, but slightly less happy that the Doctor left him at such a young age on a random planet.
- The Master is mentioned. Steven and Ian don't know him yet.
- The Sontarans imply they will at one point will master "Time Corridor" technology, as soon as they have "beaten the Rutons".
- The Doctor refers to Polly standing up to the Cyber-Leader, and Polly mentions still being with Ben.
- The Sontaran Commander mentions that The Invasion of Time was his plan.
- Catchphrase: The Fifth Doctor utters "Brave Heart" to Polly.
- Derelict Graveyard: The Space Station is really a conglomeration of several space stations and spaceships.
- Does Not Like Guns: The Fifth Doctor thinks waving a gun around only will give people a reason to shoot you.
- Evil Versus Evil: The Daleks versus the Sontarans with the Doctor and his (former) companions stuck in the middle.
- Fanservice: Every character in this adventure is either a recurring character performed by the same actor from the past, except for the Sontarans, who are performed by Dan Starkey, who's performed Strax and other minor Sontarans ever since "The Sontaran Stratagem".
- Gladiator Games: The so-called "Death Zone" of the Time Lords are used to pit certain races in a Pocket Dimension with just another species.
- Hand Wave: "You'll find that once you get back, your memories of this might be quite hazy."
- Have We Met Yet?: More akin to "At what point are we meeting", because all players have met, but they are unsure at what point in their lives they meet.
- Indy Ploy: Specifically mentioned by Nyssa, that without knowing what's going on "Get out of here" is the best they could do.
- Interquel: This story is set during the events of "The Five Doctors". The titular five companions were supposed to be sent to the Death Zone on Gallifrey, but ended up in the pocket dimension instead. From the Fifth Doctor's POV, this story is set between the time he uses the Master's transmat to leave the Death Zone and his arrival at the Capitol. In a nod to the chronology of the original story, the Doctor assumes at this point that the Master is responsible for gathering his companions and past selves.
- Noodle Incident: Might be a Call-Forward, but the Doctor says he has to go to Gallifrey because someone is amassing a large amount of —
- Pocket Dimension: The Death Zone the Time Lords create to pit races against one another.
- Shoot Out the Lock: Done with a (stolen) Dalek laser beam.
- The Unreveal: We never find out what brought the old stations and ships together, but the Doctor theorizes it might be Time Lord technology, or The Master.
- Villain Team-Up: See the following:Sontaran Commander: We cannot escape unless whoever brought us here allows it. But we have a chance to do a great service to both our races.Dalek: THE ... DOCT-TOR.Sontaran Commander: Yes. He has defeated us both, several times.Dalek: IF WE CANNOT ESCAPE. NEI-THER CAN HE!Sontaran Commander: The Doctor always finds a way out. I say, we make sure that this time, he does not. Collapse this dimension and DESTROY the Doctor. In the name of the Sontarans and the Daleks!A DOOR OPENSDalek: WE... ACCEPT YOUR PROPOSITION.
- For a whole two minutes.
