Recap / Big Finish Doctor Who NEDAS Ravenous 4 E 1 Whisper

Go To

As part of an uneasy alliance with the Eleven, the Doctor decides to take him to the Still Foundation in the hope he can recuperate there. On arrival, however, the facility has been attacked by strange creatures which seem to hunt by sound.

Tropes:

  • Brief Accent Imitation: Eleven does a pretty good imitation of Paul McGann to mock the Doctor.
  • Continuity Nod: The Eleven blisteringly deconstructs the Doctor's supposed pacifistic stance by pointing out he doesn't mind other people pulling the trigger, a fact often brought up through the revival series.
  • Dead All Along: Turns out Kinner wasn't actually Kinner, but the planet doing its best Kinner impersonation.
  • Everybody's Dead, Dave: At first it seems like it's just most of the Still Foundation staff and patients who've been eaten. Then Vonne gets eaten by the "monsters" just as the Doctor finds the facility's medical records.
  • Genius Loci: Turns out the Still Foundation was built on a planet that's actually alive. It was dormant when they set up shop, but woke up very hungry.
  • He's Back!: After supposedly having silenced his previous regenerations, it turns out the Eleven's prior selves are still there.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: The Eleven's stance on shooting Vonne after she's grabbed by the creatures.
  • Ironic Echo Cut: The story begins with the Doctor assuring Liv and Helen that the Still Foundation should be harmless and no danger at all. Cut to the facility as all Hell's breaking lose.
  • Karma Houdini: In the end, there's not really much that can be done about a living planet, or the people it's eaten. All the Doctor can do is rig up a distress call telling people to stay away.
  • Sequel Hook: With the Still Foundation being a bust, the Eleven promises the Doctor he knows somewhere peaceful they can go, leading into the next story.
  • You Wouldn't Shoot Me: Liv grabs a gun off one of the survivors in the scramble, and later draws it on the Eleven. He predicts she won't actually fire. And he's right. For now.
