But when death disrupts the diplomacy, Cosmic Nine news reporter Adriana Jarsdel uncovers a different story. Luckily, someone is there to help. A battle-weary veteran from another war. The Doctor has come to Galen – but is he looking for peace, or something else entirely?
The Bleeding Heart contains examples of:
- Action Bomb: The Doctor rigged his Sonic Screwdriver to explode to seal the rift the Compassionate is in.
- Bittersweet Ending: The Compassionate is sealed away for good, freeing the people from its influence but at the cost of Adriana's life.
- Continuity Nod:
- The sonic screwdriver which the Ninth Doctor uses and later rigged to explode is the War Doctor's, implying this story is set not too long after regenerating.

- Madness Mantra: The people influenced by the Compassionate all chant "I want to heal your pain".
