Tropes
- Declaration of Protection: Steven is often motivated by his desire to protect Sara.
- Deserted Island: Where the crew of the time ship and the TARDIS crew appear to be after the crash in the vortex.
- Mistaken for Spies: Not as much of a cliché as it could be, considering the environment of East Germany in the Cold War.
- Out-of-Character Alert: Steven realises that he's in an illusion when Sara says that she loves him, as while Steven has an interest in Sara he knows that she doesn't feel the same way.
- Switching P.O.V.: The story is set up in four episodes. One and three are narrated by Steven, while two and four are from Sara's point of view.
- Time Crash: The First Doctor's TARDIS is crashed into by some human temporal scientists who had made the first ever time flight, and both groups are then left on a desert island with no time travel. The result at first appears to be this, as the order of cause and effect seems messed up and things that cannot possibly exist (a 'time sprite') begin attacking them. However, this is a subversion, as it turns out that both teams are still inside the TARDIS and it has put the crews in a repair dimension while it attempts to stop time breaking down as a result of the crash.
